Should you help the old when he/she falls down on the street? In current days , with the development of society and economic ,series of social problems are appeared. In order to analyze this phenomenon three universities in Beijing jointly distribute an opinion poll about “Should you help the old when he/she falls down on the street?”.

From the result of this survey, we know that 29.6 percent of the people are surveyed think that whether they help the old or not will according to the circumstance. The people who will help the old are the most ,they accounted for 64.8 percent of them. And also have 8.3 percent hold the view that the old shouldn’t be help.

Why don’t they help the old falls down on the street? 5.3 percent of them are lack of medical knowledge. And 7.2 percent of them think that it’s not related to them. But the major, 87.4 percent of them are afraid of getting themselves into trouble.

Through this result, we can see clearly that crisis of confidence between people. Sincere and confidence are replaced by dishonest and hypocritical. Cautious and alert are deeply rooted. In my opinion, we all should help each other. Respect and take good care of the old is the traditional Chinese virtues. When we meet the case, we’d better call health care workers for help.

Because we lack of medical knowledge may cause more harm to the old. I hope there is less harm and more worm in our life.

Should we help old people up when they fall over?

At a glance, this seems to be a simple question that requires only a "yes" or "no" answer. However, due to various incidents that have occurred recently, this issue has now become a topic worth contemplating about.

This event can be dated back to november,26,2006 that a resident of Nan Jing called Peng Yu who helped an old lady and sent her to the hospital. However, the old lady and her family stated categorically that Peng was the man who knocked her and insisted him to bear thousands of medical expenditure. Rejected by Peng,Xu began a suit in Gu Lou Court and ask 130 thousands’ compensation for damage. Finally the court pronounced that Peng should indemnify her 45876 Yuan.

If it were not him who knocked the old lady, Peng has no responsibility to sent her to the hospital. But it is our traditional virtue that taking pleasure in helping others and doing boldly what is righteous. Such kinds of reports can be seen frequently that the one who did good and got nothing but legal sanctions which is a shock to the sense of a community. From then on, the reports that people are dear to help others are nothing new

Such kinds of things exerted a bad influence in the society which began with doing good but ended up with retribution.

Does Lei Feng spirit exist in the second decade of 21 century? When seeing old lady fall in the ground, what shall we do? Help or not? Do good or not? When seeing someone needs help, would you give him a hand? It is not a problem for a person who has conscience; however it becomes more and more perplexed. This phenomenon not only reflects people’s moral anxiety in the conversion of society but also the culpable problem in society and moral developments after reforming and opening. We will investigate people’s idea out of this consideration.

A strange, new dilemma faces Chinese pedestrians: should you help an elderly person who has fallen into the street?

The answer seems simple. Your conscience compels you to help someone in danger.

But many Chinese are discovering that some of these injured people are scammers. They accuse good Samaritans of having knocked them over in the first place, and they lodge complaints in hopes of receiving large amounts of compensation.

There are frequent reports on such incidents and ensuing disputes. On Sept 8, a new case happened in Huainan, Anhui province.

Yuan Chen, a 20-year-old college student from Huainan Normal University, claimed that she helped an injured elderly woman on the street. But the woman’s family has demanded that Yuan take full responsibilities for the injuries, The Beijing News reported.

Since the incident happened in the security cameras’ blind spot, both sides are looking for witnesses to clear their names. The local police department is also investigating the case.

But how can you possibly solve a case like this, where the only evidence comes from two conflicting viewpoints?

“This kind of cases should follow the principle of ‘the burden of proof lies with the person making the claim’,” Ye Lin, a law professor from Renmin University of China, told China Central Television.

The burden of proof means the collection of proof or evidence. In civil cases, “if you accuse someone of causing you harm or losses, you should collect convincing proof to back your claim,” said Ye. “If you cannot do that, the law will not be able to support your claim.”

The law may not resolve all the problems, however. Some elderly people choose to blackmail their helpers because they do not have health insurance. To prevent this, the country needs to put in place a better social security net, China Youth Daily noted.
