A LION was awakened from sleep by a Mouse running over his face. Rising up angrily, he caught him and was about to kill him, when the Mouse piteously entreated, saying: "If you would only spare my life, I would be sure to repay your kindness." The Lion laughed and let him go. It happened shortly after this that the Lion was caught by some hunters, who bound him by strong ropes to the ground. The Mouse, recognizing his roar, came and gnawed the rope with his teeth and set him free, exclaiming: "You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you,

expecting to receive from me any repayment of your favor; now you know that it is possible for even a Mouse to con benefits on a Lion."

A man walking in the night slipped from a rock. Afraid that he would fall down thousands of feet, because he knew that place was a very deep valley, he took hold of a branch that was hanging over the rock. In the night all he couls see was a bottomless abyss. He shouted, his own shout

reflected back--there was nobody to hear.

You can imagine that man and his whole night of scare. Every moment there was death, his hands were becoming cold, he was losing his grip...... and as the sun came out he looked down and he laughed. There was no abyss. Just six inches down there was a rock. He could have rested the whole night, slept well---the rock was big enough---but the whole night was a nightmare. Fear is only six inches deep. Now it is up to you whether you want to go on cling to the branch and turn your life into a nightmare, or whether you would love to leave the branch and stand on your feet.

There is nothing to fear.

One day, a rich father took his little son on a trip to the country. He wanted to show him the poverty in the world. They spent a day and a night at the farm of a very poor family.

When they got back from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”

“Very good, Dad!”

“Did you see how the lives of the poor can be?” the father asked.

“Yeah!”

“And what did you learn?”

After thinking for a moment, the son answered, “I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, and they have a creek that has no end. We have electric lights in the garden, and they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, and they have a whole horizon.”

When the little boy finished, his father was speechless. His son added, “Thanks, Dad, for showing how poor we are!”

6、不完整的圆圈

Once a circle missed a wedge. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around looking for its missing piece. But because it was incomplete and therefore could roll only very slowly, it admired the flowers along the way. It chatted with worms.It enjoyed the sunshine.It found lots of diferent pieces, but none of them fit. So it left them all by the side of the road and kept on searching. Then one day the circle found a piece that fit perfectly. It was so happy. Now it could be whole, with nothing missing. It incorporated the missing piece into itself and began to roll. Now that it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast, too fast to notice the flowers and talk to the worms. When it realized how different the world seemed when it rolled so quickly, it stopped, left its found piece by the side of the road and rolled slowly away.

The lesson of the story, was that in some strange sense we are more whole when we are missing something. The man who has everything is in some ways a poor man. He will never know what if feels like to yearn, to hope, to nourish his soul with the dream of something better. There is wholeness about the person who hasa come to terms with his limitations, who has been brave enough to let go of his unrealistic dreams and not feel like a failure for doing so.

7、把时间抛在身后

The old monk often took the young monk to the hill outside the temple to recite the lection. One day the young monk said to the old monk, "How slowly the time goes!" The old monk said, "You can have a try like this---in the morning sit to the west to read; and in the afternoon sit to the

east to read." At the master's advice, the young monk recited the lection against the sun. By and by he neglected the passage of time.

The next day he told the old monk ,"Master, you're so masterly that I forget time with a switch of direction and absorb myself in the lection."

The old monk said, "Whatever you do, only you leave time behind you can you focus on it selflessly."

A father was worried about his son, who was sixteen years old but had no courage at all. So the father decided to call on a Buddhist monk to train his boy.

The Buddhist monk said to the boy's father, "You should leave your son alone here. I'll make him into a real man within three months. However, you can’t come to see him during this period. " Three months later, the boy's father returned. The Buddhist monk arranged a boxing match between the boy and an experienced boxer. Each time the fighter struck the boy, he fell down, but at once the boy stood up; and each time a punch knocked him down, the boy stood up again. Several times later, the Buddhist monk asked, "What do you think of your child?" "What a shame!" the boy's father said. "I never thought he would be so easily knocked down. I needn't have him left here any longer."

"I'm sorry that that's all you see. Don't you see that each time he falls down; he stands up again instead of crying? That's the kind of courage you wanted him to have."
