Turning to 18 is kind of a big deal ,because for all your life, people have been telling you“no,you are too young to do that.”until you’re 18. But for me ,18th birthday is not a good memory. Actually ,if I were to make a list of the most horrible and miserable experiences that i have ever had in my entire life of almost 20 years,my 18th birthday would definitely be at the top. Nothing could be worse than that day to me,not even Nanjing Massacre. I can still remember that day clearly as if it was just yesterday. It was the second Tuesday of December,a freezing cold winter day that made your teeth chatter uncontrollably the second you stepped out of room. I woke up in the morning hearing the h

eavy wind beating on the windowpanes and making them shaking in the howling gale. Looking through the window,there is no more leaves to rustle in the wind as all the trees are as bald as coot; the sky appeared a heavy shade of mottled gray ,like an old people’s face,pale and rigid. A rather normal day,I said in my mind. Nothing could go wrong.I began to drop gazillions of hints to my parents and friends weeks before the big day and I was pretty sure that they all got it. The long-expected day came and I just can’t wait to see what they’ve got me.I was expecting something big ,a celebration in a big way. Filled with great excitement,i went to class and expected my friends to find me

during break. The classes are so long and i just can’t wait to unwrap my presents！9am,10am ,and then 11am ,one class after another,but no one ever talked to me the whole morning！I felt an ominous foreboding that something was going to be wrong.I was a little worried,but not so much because i still got time. “Nothing could go wrong”,i said to myself as a comfort, “at least some of them would remember me”.But soon i was totally disappointed as nothing happened in the following hours. Nothing. I began to doubt myself .I don’t even get a “happy birthday”. How obnoxious they think i am ? Is there any possibility that this could be a prank? ... It was not until late in the night that one of my roommates first found that day was my birthday from my online page. It turned out that no one hated me,they just didn’t remember me. Not even my own parents,who only called a few days after and said they forgot it. I was pissed not because i didn’t get expensive gifts on that day but because they totally neglected me. This experience ,though pretty terrible ,made me realize something: not to depend on anyone else but yourself ; don’t expect too much and always be prepared for the worst.
