Mainly introduced the originand evolution of the Mid-Autumn festival, the festival’s name, the origin of the mooncakes, main customs, etc.

1.The Mid-Autumn festival name

For the feast on August 15, so called "the mid autumn festival", "half" in August;[1][2].In the tang dynasty, the Mid-Autumn festival is also known as "correct".Because of the main activities of the Mid-Autumn festival is around the "month", so they are commonly known as the "moon festival" the moon.

2. Source of the Mid-Autumn festival

Long ago in one of the dynasties of China there was a king who was very cruel to the people and did not manage the country well. The people were so angry that some brave ones suggested killing the king. So they wrote notes telling about the meeting place and time and put them into cakes. On the 15th day of the 8th lunar month every person was told to buy the cakes. When they ate them they discovered the notes. So they gathered together to make a sudden attack on the king. From then on the Chinese people celebrate on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month and eat moon cakes in memory of that important event.[1]

3. Mid-Autumn Festival customs

We have a custom, this is not only to eat mooncakes on Mid-Autumn festival, but also in the morning eat dumpling. On the evening there will be a big family dinner.Many people who live far away from homes want to go back to have a family reunion. But because of work can’t go back, so the day of the Mid-Autumn festival also became homesick to relatives . Of course, many places are like to play with lanterns, etc.

Mid-Autumn Day is a traditional festival in China. Almost everyone likes to eat mooncakes on that day. Most families have a dinner together to celebrate the festival. A saying goes, "The moon in your hometown is almost always the brightest and roundest". Many people who live far away from homes want to go back to have a family reunion. How happy it is to enjoy the moon cakes while watching the full moon with your family members.[2]

4. The origin of the moon cakes

During the Yuan Dynasty (A.D.1206-1368) China was ruled by the Mongolian people. Leaders from the preceding Sung Dynasty (A.D.960-1279) were unhappy at submitting to foreign rule, and set how to coordinate the rebellion without it being discovered. The leaders of the rebellion, knowing that the Moon Festival was drawing near, ordered the making of special cakes. Packed into each mooncake was a message with the outline of the attack. On the night of the Moon Festival, the rebels successfully attacked and overthrew the government. What followed was the establishment of the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644). Today, moon cakes are eaten to commemorate this event.[1][2]
