toward a secure future. But the sons and daughters want to major in history or classics or philosophy—subjects with no ―practical‖ value. Where’s the payoff on the humanities? It’s not easy to persuade such loving parents that the humanities do indeed pay off. The intellectual faculties developed by studying subjects like history and classics are just the faculties that make creative leaders in business or almost any general field.

Luckily for me, most of them got into their field by an indirect route, to their surprise, after many roundabout ways. They can hardly conceive of a career that was not preplanned. They can hardly imagine allowing the hand of God or chance to nudge them down some unforeseen trail.

Life after graduation could be a stressful time for many people. As you approach the end of your time in higher education, it is quite natural for us to focus more on what comes next. Some people are looking to get a particular job. Some are after a postgraduate’s qualification which is a stepping stone for those who are ambitious in a political carrier in China. Some people even just want to get married and have their own small family.

Of course, for most one, finding a job will be the top priority. There are more students, especially in China, realize that the first thing which they have to do is just finding a job in order to earn their own money. This is quite true for those coming from low-income families. Meanwhile, under the employment pressure, the job-seekers face the most embarrassed reality that the job-market is saturated now. People are force to chose to go to work early to the possibility that employment pressure in future would be even greater than which is now. Even more, people hold that working experience is more useful than the knowledge which learned from the books. They are enthusiastically in want of jobs in order to pick up some experience and have a deeper understanding of the society and working as well. Compared with the same-aged peers, those who have already took jobs look more mature, more responsible and more reliable.

There will also be a group of students set up their own business. This kind of choice may has its special advantages. Students can expand their thoughts into reality. Building their own business means that they have the unique chance to do what they really want to do .However, for most of graduates building up fortune for themselves are not an easy affair. They need their own team, the key idea of future career, and so on.

The researchers once use online surveys to learn about the attitudes towards being self-employed. The result shows that one-third of the students approved of self-employment, while about two-thirds are negative about being self-employment.

However, my intention is to tell you exactly why being self-employed is so much better than working for someone else. Fist of all, we are our own boss. It is the one we all dreamed about when we realized self-employment was a viable option: being our own boss. Escaping the rat race and living life as we pleased. When we are self-employed, we no longer have a “higher-up” governing our every move. We can control how our work is done. Our client might have a say in the final product, but that’s it. Their power ends there. How we get from point A to point B is completely up to us and the feeling is awesome. Secondly, we earn more money and spend less money. On average, freelancers earn 45% more than people who are traditionally employed. They’re also allowed to deduct certain business expenses that employees are not, allowing to actually keep more of what they earn. When was the last time you were stuck in traffic on your way to work? If we perform our professional duties from a home office, there will be no problems and waiting. Think about all the money on gas we’ve been saving. Even if we work outside of our home, as someone who’s self-employed, we were able to choose the location. Child care expenses may also be a thing of the past for us. Thirdly, when we were an employee, we were handed a manual or given some hasty

instructions by our boss and we knew what we needed to know to perform our jobs, and there was never any reason to grow beyond that. Our job never changed. As a freelancer, our job is changing constantly. We’re expected to continually adapt, learn, and update our skills. With every new client comes a new challenge. When we’re self-employed, we’re forced to think and to be creative. It’s a great feeling to know that our skills are being put to good use and that those skills are going to continue to grow as our business grows.

Four, we can set our own schedule. Whether we crave the steady familiarity of a fixed schedule, or we long to mix it up with hours that are more flexible; as our own boss, we’re the one who creates your schedule. It means if you’re not a morning person, you can rest easy knowing that you no longer have to set your alarms in order to just barely make your morning meeting. Finally, we can choose our own customers. When we work as an employee, we’re more-or-less forced to serve whoever decides to show up at your employer’s place of business. However, if a client yells at you now, as your own boss, it’s because you chose the wrong client. We’re the one in control now, not them. We choose who we provide services to.
