Cocteau Twins, Lisa Germano, St.Etienne, This Mortal Coil, My Bloody Valentine, Mazzy Star和 Dead Can Dance等。

外国代表乐队有 The Divine Comedy, Rialto, Eric Matthews及 Balle & Sebastian等.

Synth Pop代表组合: Depeche Mode、 Human League、 Duran Duran、 OMD、 Gary Numan

Pop music, in popular and contemporary parlance, is a subgenre of popular music. Since the term spans many rock, hip hop, rhythm and blues (R&B), country, dance and operatic pop acts, it is reasonable to say that "pop music" is a loosely defined category. The term is also used in a derogatory manner by those who feel that pop acts lack any musically artistic meaning, or in lack of better terminology, represent a "betrayal" away from the traditional sound of either the act themselves or the specific genre to which the act belongs.

Pop music is generally described as very commercial friendly, marketable and memorable, with either vocals, lyrics, instruments, or a combination of all three creating catchy

choruses or verses. Pop music is also known for its ability to attract listeners through its versatile sound since it pulls from a plethora of musical influences. It can be also fair to say that pop music is predominantly image driven, especially through the subject matter of the lyrics, live performances, music videos, and other forms of exposure which makes it favourable and unfavourable to whoever is the listener.

In modern times (increasingly over the last half-century; most notably since the start of the 2000's), this genre's immense success as a commercial product has, ironically, led to even more commercialization within the music itself, with "artists" being drawn in by companies for their appearance, dancing ability and vocal competence; and being

provided with an image, choreography, and most importantly complete songs by veterans working for the record company. Some notable examples include Swedish songwriter Max Martin's having crafted most hit songs by pop acts such as Britney Spears and The Backstreet Boys, and the pop boy band O-Town having been created as an MTV show. This technique for creating music is massively effective commercially for several apparent reasons. It is adept at targeting specific demographics among young people, since songs are written with that purpose in mind by talented professionals, and images crafted

similarly. Also, by sticking to a straight-forward formula and format, it is able to produce a consistent, predictable, and marketable product. That ability is only aided, naturally, by the vastly reduced output of the artists preventing companies' dependency on their

eccentricities and whims. On the other hand, that reduced role for the artist, especially in the creative area, has always drawn harsh criticism from music fans who are painfully aware of its lack of substance. A music production method completely opposite to that of pop music is that of indie music, where record labels are small, vastly dependent on their few artists, and run by young entrepreneurs rather than corporate veterans. Indie artists, in turn, are in no way image driven, not widely marketed (often because of the label's financial constraints), and are almost universally of organic origins rather than having been assembled by their label. Many new artists turn to small indie labels since their reduced marketability makes them an unpopular choice with major labels.

Pop music Modern pop music was born in the USA when two different kinds of music came together. The first kind was the music of Africa which was brought to the USA by black slaves. The second kind was taken to the USA by white settlers from Britain and Ireland.Rhythm was the most important thing in black music, while white songs had a strong melody.

For a long time the two kinds of music developed separately. Then in the 1950s a young man called Elvis Presley brought them together, and rock and roll was born.Other rock and roll singers soon appeared----Buddy Holly,Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Since then, every generation has added something new to pop music. In the 1960s,rock music was developed in several differen directions by British bands like The Baetles ,The Rolling Stones and The Who ,and by American stars like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix.

The 1970s produced glam rock (short for’glamour rock’).Bands like Slade,Queen and the Swedish group,Abba, were as famous for their colourful costums as for their music.Heavy metal bands with their very loud music also appeared in the 1970s. The second half of the 1970s gave us punk rock. The Sex Pistols,The Clash and other similar bands tried to shock people with their angry music. In the 1980s,Amerian dance music was fashion with hit pop, house and garage music.British bands like Duran Duran,Spandau Ballet, and Tears for Fears were also big at this time.

The 1990s produced Britpop bands like Oasis and Blur. They were followed by girl bands like the Spice Girl ,and boy bands like Backstreet Boys .Most of the boy and girl bands didn’t play their own instruments .They usually sang and danced .Rap music also became very popular in the ’90s.

The differen kinds of pop music have often changed teenage fashion, too.Rock and roll made jeans and T-shirts fashionable .The hippies of the late 1960s had long hair and wore colourful’flower power’clothes.Punks tired to shock people with their clothes as well as their music .They dyed their hair bright colours like green or orange, and put safety pins in their ears and noses.

Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short and simple love songs and utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes. Pop music has absorbed influences from most other forms of popular music, but as a genre is particularly associated with the rock and roll and later rock style.

Hip hop is a cultural movement that originated in the working class communities of New York City, United States, in the late 1970s.[1][2][2] DJ Afrika Bambaataa first outlined the five pillars of hip-hop culture: MCing, DJing, breaking, graffiti writing, and

knowledge.[3][4][5][6] Other elements include beatboxing, hip hop fashion, and slang. Since first emerging in the South Bronx, hip hop culture has spread around the world.[7] When hip hop music began to emerge, it was based around disc jockeys who created rhythmic beats by looping breaks (small portions of songs emphasizing a percussive

pattern) on two turntables, which is now more commonly referred to as sampling. This was later accompanied by "rap" (a rhythmic style of chanting or poetry more formally in 16 bar measures or time frames) and beatboxing, a vocal technique mainly used to imitate percussive elements of the music and various technical effects of hip hop DJs. An original form of dancing and particular styles of dress arose among lovers of this new music. These elements experienced considerable refinement and development over the course of the history of the culture.

The relationship between graffiti and hip hop culture arises from the appearance of new and increasingly elaborate and pervasive forms of the practice in areas where other

elements of hip hop were evolving as art forms, with a heavy overlap between those who wrote graffiti and those who practiced other elements of the culture.

Heavy metal (often referred to simply as metal) is a genre of rock music[1] that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and the United States.[2] With roots in blues-rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal

developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Heavy metal lyrics and performance styles are general(转 载 于:wWW.smHAida.cOM 海达范文网:pop, music的特点)ly associated with masculinity and machismo.[3]

The first heavy metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple attracted large audiences, though they were often critically reviled, a status common

throughout the history of the genre. In the mid-1970s Judas Priest helped spur the genre's evolution by discarding much of its blues influence; Mot?rhead introduced a punk rock sensibility and an increasing emphasis on speed. Bands in the New Wave of British

Heavy Metal such as Iron Maiden followed in a similar vein. Before the end of the decade, heavy metal had attracted a worldwide following of fans known as "metalheads" or "headbangers".

In the 1980s, glam metal became a major commercial force with groups like M?tley Crüe. Underground scenes produced an array of more extreme, aggressive styles: thrash metal broke into the mainstream with bands such as Metallica and Megadeth, while other styles like death metal and black metal remain subcultural phenomena. Since the mid-1990s, popular styles such as nu metal, which often incorporates elements of grunge and hip hop; and metalcore, which blends extreme metal with hardcore punk, have further expanded the definition of the genre.

Pop music, often called simply pop, is contemporary music and a common type of popular music (distinguished from classical or art music and from folk music[1]). The term does not refer specifically to a single genre or sound, and its meaning is different depending on the time and place. Within popular music, "pop music" is often distinguished from other subgenres by stylistic traits such as a danceable rhythm or beat, simple melodies and a repeating structure. Pop song lyrics are often emotional, relating to love or dancing.

Pop Music

1)熟练掌握 the here and there, the present, infectious, witty lyrics等重点词汇的应用

Pop Music

Pop Music

Pop music is a genre of popular music, which originated in its modern form in the 1950s and 1960s, deriving from rock and roll. As a genre, pop music is extremely eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock, Latin and country; nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop. Such elements include generally short to medium-length songs, written in a basic format, as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and hooks.

Throughout its development, pop music has absorbed influences from most other genres of popular music. Early pop music drew on the sentimental ballad for its form, gained its use of vocal harmonies from gospel and soul music, instrumentation from jazz, country, and rock music, orchestration from classical music, tempo from dance music, backing from electronic music, rhythmic elements from hip-hop music, and has recently appropriated spoken passages from rap. Pop music has been dominated by the American and British music industries, whose influence has made pop music something of an international monoculture, but most regions and countries have their own form of pop music, sometimes producing local versions of wider trends, and lending them local characteristics. Some of these trends have had a significant impact of the development of the genre.

Some non-Western countries, such as Japan, have developed a thriving pop music industry, most of which is devoted to Western-style pop, has for several years has produced a greater quantity of music of everywhere except the USA. The spread of Western-style pop music has been interpreted variously as representing processes of Americanization, homogenization, modernization, creative appropriation, cultural imperialism, and a more general process of globalization.
