Many friends of mine who study in the north upload a lot of interesting pictures about snowmen on their personal blogs. Born in the south and bred in the south; I never ever have a chance to see snow. I think they must have fun when they made a snowman. I really envy them. Every time I tell my parents we should go to the north for Spring Festival but they don’t agree (my father has some relations in Shanxi where snows every year) they think we could get sick because of the cold weather. Maybe someday I can travel to the north by myself.

I know that the cultural in the north is totally different from south. In south, we almost eat everything, while in the north, people staple food is wheat. I hear that they eat noodles all the time. I don’t know it’s true or not. I just want to travel to there to test it by myself. In my opinion, traveling alone or with my friends to the north is quite a challenge for me. I wish i can save enough money, so I can go there to see the view of the north.

Attitude is altitude

However, Nick never gave up. After many failures,he finally learned to swim, fish and even surf. What surprised us is that he completed university education and got two degrees. And now he is the CEO of two companies.

When asked about the secret of his success, Nick’s answer is: Attitude is altitude. In his eyes, nothing is impossible if he is determined to overcome any difficulties. He thinks a positive attitude is the key to success.

After reading Nick’s story, I have been feeling inspired by his spirit. Compared with him, we are healthy enough to enjoy life. Somehow, we are always frustrated facing difficulties. I think Nick has set a good example for us. Try to appreciate what we do have and be more persevering and you will achieve success in the end.

What is happiness? Different people have different views on it. For example, some believe that if they have much money, they will get and everything they want to. And they will feel happy. Some think that they shoulder be in good health. If so, they can enjoy whatever they like. Others wish to have much wealth from their parents. In this way they don’t have to work hard,and they can own everything, which they think is happiness.

I don’t quite agree with the above views on happiness. I don’t think money means happiness. As is known to us all, we can’t buy everything with money, such as friendship and knowledge. I value knowledge, which makes me happy. Knowledge is power. I can do much for mankind with knowledge. Of course, I can do my work better with it to make my life better. Although different people value happiness differently, my happiness comes from my study.

Most of us feel nervous whenever we’re taking an important exam. Some will feel dizzy or tired, some will suffer from lack of sleep, and some will lose their appetite. In fact, all these symptoms have terrible effects on our exams and we are all eager to get rid of them.

First of all,in my opinion,it’s important for us to have a right attitude towards exams. They are only a means of checking how we are getting along with our studies, so there is no need to worry too much about the results. Study hard every day and make careful plans for every exam. In this way we can avoid suffering from the pressure of exams.

Besides, enough sleep can make us energetic and enable us to perform well in an exam. Therefore, during the period of exams, we should not stay up too late. We can also try a warm bath or a cup of warm milk before going to bed. They might help us to have a sound sleep.

(We’d better go out for a walk or do some outdoor exercise before and during an exam so that we can keep ourselves relaxed and then concentrate ourselves on exams.)

I fully understand why we are not comfortable about it, but there’s no need to feel too sad. Our parents are checking our bags or diaries to make sure we’re not getting into any trouble. They have probably heard some horrible stories about other kids and thought we might do the same. Or perhaps they just want to connect with us but are doing it all wrong. My suggestion is: Tell them we want them to trust us as much as we’d like to trust them. If you don’t think you can talk to them, write them a letter and leave it lying around—they are bound to read it.

Something Special For Parents

Not long ago, Student Union in our school advocated that Senior Three students should do something special for their parents on their 18th birthday. All the students were actively in response to it and most of them have come up with their ideas. Some choose to write a letter, saying it’s the best way to express their appreciation as well as love for their dearest parents. Others prefer to cook a big meal to show that they’ve already grown up.

As for me, I tend to do up hair, wash feet and cut finger-nails for my parents. By doing what parents have been doing for me I can really know how much they devote to bringing me up. Also, being eighteen years old means it’s time that I should take responsibility to take care of them.

Recently the school website has set up a new column called “English Writing” which provides students with the chances to post their compositions and communicate with each other . Not only can students improve their writing ability in this way, but also they can strengthen their self-confidence.

Discussion about the issue has become very heated throughout the country, especially in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

As is shown in the pie chart, 48%of the people surveyed tend to support this policy. They think that it will promote fair education. On the contrary, 19% of the people surveyed think otherwise. They are opposed to the policy, which, in their opinion, is not beneficial to the promotion of fair education. Meanwhile, 23% of the hold that it will be very difficult to carry out the college matriculation policy for migrant children. And very few (10%) people express their view that,

while performing the policy, the governments should pay attention to protecting the local’s legal interests.

As far as I’m concerned, I’m in favor of the policy. On one hand, it can allow the migrant children to enjoy equal opportunity for education. On the other hand, it will have a profound effect in China’s field of education.

What should be the appropriate attitude towards test results is always under hot discussion. Gladly, most parents nowadays are quite aware of their own responsibilities. Teachers will undoubtedly re-consider and thus improve their teaching methods aiming to increase classroom efficiency. Students will certainly study harder.

In my opinion, it is always the best for family, students and schools to co-operate closely. When kids fail, everybody should be brave enough to bear responsibilities and find practical solutions to avoid similar mistakes. It surely benefits a lot in the construction of a harmonious society as well as forming a friendly relationship between families and schools.

Some of my classmates are in favor of living in the city. Firstly, there are more career opportunities in big cities which they think are very important to their future development, because big companies have their headquarters located in big cities. Secondly, they think living in a big city is very comfortable. For one thing, it is convenient to take a bus or a taxi. On top of these, cities have parks, restaurants and other entertainment places where they can seek excitement. But most small towns have none of these.

However, some other students hold a different opinion. They think the expenses of living are high in big cities. Furthermore, big cities are very crowded with too many people. The air is polluted which contributes to the poor living environment.

As far as I’m concerned, every coin has two sides. But on matter where we live, we should

work hard, protect natural environment and save energy.

我在学校有很多朋友，但最好的朋友只有一个，她的名字叫苏珊。她也是我的同班同学。苏珊是一个漂亮又可爱的女孩子，她比我要高一些。我们经常待在一起，有人说我们亲如姐妹。实际上，我真的把她当作自己的亲姐妹。她学习很努力，我们经常在一起做功课，互相帮助。她最喜欢数学，因为她觉得做算术题很有趣也很有挑战性。她的数学学得很好，我们的数学老师非常喜欢她。此外，她在我们班上也很受欢迎，因为她很活泼，很吸引人。

My mother

I have a great mother. She cares much about me in my life and study. In the morning, she gets up early to make breakfast for me. When I was little, she prepared my schoolbag. And she always checks my homework. When I finish my homework, she checks it and points out the mistakes. She is very careful and helps me a lot.

Besides, my mother is a teacher and she taught me from my Grade 1 to Grade 3 in primary school. She is a good teacher with great patience. She is so kind to all students in her class that she is badly popular among her students. Except for knowledge, my mother teaches me how to be a good person and she regards it as the most important lesson to a person. In my opinion, she gets 100 points as a teacher as well as a mother. I love her so much.

Unit One

My childhood

My childhood was unforgettable.

When I was five years old, I went to the kindergarten every day. I had a lot of good time with my little friends. My parents took good care of me. I didn’t need to care about food and clothes and any other things. I was very happy in those days. But one day, my mother told me that she wouldn't pick me up after school. I was afraid of going home alone, so I started to cry and I was angry with my mother. Although I insisted that she and my father should protect me safely, they still disagreed with me. They thought it was good for me to learn to be independent. The next day after class, I had to take a bus to go back home. I forgot to see the bus route when I got on. Therefore, when the bus was more and more far from my home, I felt anxious. Finally, I got the last stop, and then took the same bus back home. When I told my parents my story, they never thought it is a mistake, on the contrary, they thought it is a useful experience.

From then on, I don't let them took me home after school any more.

我的童年是难忘的。五岁的时候，我每天都要去幼儿园。我和小朋友们度过了许多美好的时光。我父母把握照顾得很好，我不需要担心吃穿和其他事。那些日子我过得很开心。但是，有一天我妈妈告诉我放学后她不会再去接我了。我很害怕一个人回家，所以我开始哭，对妈妈很生气。尽管我坚持认为她和爸爸应该保护我的安全，但是他们仍然不同意我的观点。他们认为让我学会独立对我有好处。第二天放学后，我不得不坐公车回家。我上车的时候忘了看路线，所以当车离我家越来越远的时候，我很着急。最后，我到了终点站，然后坐同一路车回家。当我告诉父母我的故事，他们不认为这是个错误，相反，他们认为这是一次有用的经历。从那时候起，我就不再让他们放学后去接我了。

A Wonderful Classmates Reunion

It has been long time since I left my hometown to study in university. And I really miss my high school classmates and teacher. So, I and my high school classmates decided to have a Classmates Reunion.

Yesterday was Saturday and some of my classmates in high school had a reunion at our high teacher’s home. Our teacher taught us for three years and she treated us as her own children. We loved her very much. In the afternoon, we just talked and shared our lives in college. Luckily, most of us have a colorful and happy life. Our teacher told us some interesting stories of her new students. After that, we made a big dinner together. Our teacher is a brilliant cook who can make delicious foods. We all ate much. After dinner, we watched TV for a while and then we went home.

Nice time usually past quickly, but we all will remember our friendship.

Unit Five

An unforgettable experience

Unit Two

My bedroom

My bedroom is not big but bright, because the sunshine will come in

everyday. And it is very simple but warm. My bedroom’s color is white. At first, I think it is too drab, but now think it is comfortable for not too much color.

There is a small bed, a desk, a bookshelf and a wardrobe in the room. It is very simple, right? But there are a lot of lovely dolls on my bed. There are teddy bear, Mickey Mouse, dolls and so on. I love the most is the bookshelf. On the shelf, there are different kinds of books. All of them are my favorite. Seeing the lovely dolls and wonderful books, I can have good dreams every night. And every morning, the sunshine comes in, I feel warm in my heart just seems that I see my promising future. I love my room.

Unit Four

My musical box

My musical box, given to me by a one of my closet friends is my favorite present.

The black box is made of metal material and it is comfortable to touch. Much more joy comes the moment I open it. A clown pops out and smiles at me. Its eyes shine with joy. Then like magic, he begins to shake his head with sticking out his tongue. As I touch his head, he blinks to me and begins to sing. The funny action and soft sound not only please my eyes and ears, but also have a magic effect on my mind. Sometimes, when I feel like taking a break from study, I will reach out to open the box. Following the relaxing rhythm, my tiredness goes away and I am refreshed.

That’s my favorite music box; it cheers me up and replaces the tired lines on my face with a smile.

我的家乡My Hometown

My hometown is Xiamen. I was born there twenty years ago. But now I live in Chongqing for my college life. So I always miss my beautiful hometown.

Xiamen is a beautiful city that many people visit there. The whole city is clean and tidy. You can see many modern and beautiful buildings everywhere. People in there are enjoying a comfortable life. I lived in Xiamen’s downtown. It’s near to the port, where is the busiest place, because thousands of people through there to go to the Gulangyu. Gulanyu is a small island. There are many distinctive buildings and paths there. You may get lost in these paths, but you don’t have to worry. And every path has its own beautiful scenery.

I love my beautiful hometown and all the people there. They are working hard so as to make it still richer and more beautiful.

我的家乡是厦门，十二年前我出生在那里。我现在住在福建省的首府福州市。厦门是一个很漂亮的城市，每年都有很多游客到这里旅游。整个城市都很干净整洁。过去，我就住在厦门市里，离码头很近。码头是最繁忙的地方，因为每天都有成千上万的人从那里去鼓浪屿。鼓浪屿是一个小岛，岛上有许多特色建筑和小道。行走其中，你可能会迷路，但是不必担心，每一条小道都有独特的美丽景色。我爱我美丽的家乡。
