The students will also understand that what they already know will help greatly in their reading. Teaching points:

1. Learn to use the words and expressions in the text; 2. Train the students’ reading ability;

3.How to help the students understand the text exactly. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Revision

Guess the words according to the paraphrases. Have a dictation.

Step 2 Reading strategy

1. Ask Ss to read the headline and the first paragraph to get an idea of the theme of the article. Question: What’s the theme of the article? Answer: National flags, colours and cultures.

2. Think about what you already know, and compare your knowledge with what you learn from the article.

3. Students say something about our national flag. Show Ss a map of our national flag. Questions and answers:

Question: What do the color red and yellow in our national flag mean to us? Answer: Red means blood of our soldiers. Yellow means brightness. Question: What do the five stars mean to us?

Wells tried again, but this time he gave too much of the gas, and the man died. Wells never forgot this terrible event.
