Honorable referees, distinguished contestants, ladies and gentlemen, good morning. I feel it a great honor to have this opportunity sharing my opinion of the Green Olympics with you.

In August ,2004, as the delegate of Chinese teenagers, I participated in the Olympic Youth Camp. From it, I learnt and got a lot.

In Athens, I was not only intoxicated on its long history and the deep humanity, but also impressed by the citizens' environmental

awareness and shocked by the passion of the locals' for environmental protection.

With fewer metropolitan dins can be found in Athens, the streets are neat indeed, for you will see no wastes on the road there. Moreover, I seldom saw cleaners in Athens, which impressed me very strongly. Because what this phenomenon reflected is a kind of quality,

character and also a sense of responsibility about the environment. Which means, keeping the city clean is not only a governmental behavior, but a habit in the daily life of every Athenian's.

I still remember the picture that, an old lady took great trouble to bent over for picking up a piece of newspaper and sent it into a dustbin. When I asked why she did such hard work with her age.: "Why not? " she said, just so simple. Up to now, this picture still clearly exists in my mind for its embodied environmental

consciousness and a national spirit.

Throughout the days in Athens, there were a series of educational activities about environment. In those items, we were working in groups discussing environmental problems of different aspects and also seeking the solutions. In addition, the items consisted of speeches of officers' of local NGOs and the children's paintings

exhibition as well. At the end of the activity, having reached common

understanding, each of us has submitted suggestions and measures dealing with the promotion of the implement of sustainable

development. I have to say, this series of activities really benefited me a great deal.

Therefore, I have thought of Beijing, thought of the year2008. "Green Olympics" is one of three major ideas of running the 2008 Olympic Games. The main intension of this creed is to prepare and host Olympic Games under the guidance of sustainable development. And at the same time, try hard to improve the environmental quality of the capital.

Actualy in Beijing today. the sandstorm is coming rare and rare, and the greenery area is keeping increasing year by year. No one can deny that these changes are the result of all the Beijingers' efforts. It obviously states that through the application and the preparation for 2008, the Beijingers' environmental awareness has been strengthened greatly. But as the case stands, we still have a long way to go. As a middle school student of a new era, we should take part in

environmental protection and the implement of sustainable development more widely and extensively. Indeed, environmental protection should start from dribs and drabs, but it is not enough only to stay on the surface. We have to realize today's environmental problems more

objectively and deeply .and we have to find out the obstruction and the danger we are facing. Further more, only by considering the environmental problem as the point of sustainable development and globalization, shall we be able to arouse our consciousness and enthusiasm. I firmly believe that we will make the world a better place.

And now, I have a dream.

I have a dream that one day the earth will be free from

contaminations；I have a dream that one day the nature and the human

beings will coexist harmoniously and naturally; I have a dream that one day the blue sky and the verdure will always surround us; and I have a dream that one day the green will become eternity.

So, friends, let us join our hands and work together, meet in a green Beijing, meet in 2008.

尊敬的评委，各位选手，女士们，先生们，大家早上好。

我很荣幸今天能有机会在此与大家共同交流，谈一谈我对绿色奥运的一些想法。

2004年8月，作为中国的青年代表，我参加了雅典奥运青年营活动。本次雅典之旅着实让我看到了许多、也学到了许多。

在雅典，除了陶醉于其悠久的历史和深厚的人文，我更多地有感于当地人的环境意识，震撼于他们对环保的热忱。

雅典的街道尽管少了大都市的喧嚣，但十分整洁，路面上没有任何废物。此外，在雅典我很少见到保洁人员，这对我触动很大。因为这现象所体现的是一种素质，一种作为市民的对于环境的责任感。可见，在雅典，环境的保洁已然不仅是政府行为，而真正成为了每一个雅典人的习惯。

一次我们外出参观，见一位老妇人吃力地弯腰捡起一张被风吹到脚下的报纸，并将其投入垃圾箱。当我上前询问这样做有何理由时，老人的回答是："为什么不呢？"这句话让我回味至今，这情景也让我感触良多。正如观滴水可识江海，这一平凡邂逅所体现出的环境意识乃至民族精神着实引人深思。

在我们的青年营活动中始终贯穿着一系列关于环保的教育活动。活动中，所有的营员以小组为单位，就不同层面的环境问题展开讨论，寻求解决办法，并最终达成共识。活动中还不时安排有当地环境组织官员的演讲和孩子们的图画作品展。活动结束时我们每人还提出了一份关于实施可持续发展的建议和措施，并在营员中展开了交流。这一系列活动让我受益匪浅。

由此，我想到了北京，想到了2008。

"绿色奥运"是北京举办2008年奥运会的三大理念之一。其主要内涵是在可持续发展思想的指导下筹备和举办奥运会，提高首都环境质量。

放眼今天的北京，沙尘天气已是罕见，绿地面积也在逐年增加。不可否认，这些变化是所有北京人共同努力的结果。它也说明通过申办和筹备奥运，北京人的环境意识已大大增强。然而较之于一些国家，我们还有差距。

我认为作为新时代的中学生，我们应更广泛、更深入地参加到保护环境和实施可持续发展的绿色行动中。诚然，环保要从点滴做起，但在我看来仅停留在不使用一次性筷子、捡拾废弃物的层面是不够的。作为实现绿色奥运生力军，我们应更客观、更深入地对当今的环境问题有所了解，并以全球化及可持续发展的角度认识环境问题及其对我国发展的阻碍和对人类生存的危害，从而真正唤起我们的主人意识和保护环境的热情。而这则需要生态教育的进一步深化和更多实践活动的开展。我坚信，通过我们的共同努力，绿色将不再遥远。 此刻，我有一个梦想。

我梦想有一天，地球将没有污染；

我梦想有一天，人类、自然能和谐共处；

我梦想有一天，蓝天碧水能常伴左右；

我梦想有一天，绿色将成为永恒。

I am the part of the Green OlympicsLadies and gentlemen: good morning! Today, my speech is "I am the part of the Green Olympics". "Green Olympics" is one of the Three Themes of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Therefore the Beijing government had made a great effort in order to protect the

environment, build more "Green project", keep the ecological balance, push the recycling economy, and protect the water resource. But if only the government take the action to realize the Green Olympics in 2008, its not enough. As a Beijing high school student, we should play an active role in the actions aimed at the realization of Green Olympics. So we should start it from ourselves, our family, our friends and other people around us. In 2001, in the Moscow world trade center, when the former chairman of the International Olympic Committee, Samaranch had said: "Beijing, China!" As a Beijing citizen, as a Chinese, I had a great joy for my city, for my home country from the bottom of my heart! But after the excitement that Beijing had been succeed in the race to host the Olympic Game in 2008. I started to worry about the dusty air, the sandstorm, the polluted rivers and lakes; the streets without any green and whether we could successfully host the Olympic Games in 2008. Four years later, today, we can see 229 day blue sky in one year, we can hardly catch a glimpse of the sandstorm, groups of wild duck comes back to Shishahai Lake in the spring, and all the streets are dressed in green. All these make me deeply believe that Beijing will surely succeed in 2008! And all these achievements are not only the result that made by the Beijing government, but also by the 14 millions Beijing citizens. As one of the 14 millions normal citizens, I am also adding my contribution to our Green Olympic! I used to have a habit, which is to take two longtime showers every day. It was a big waste of water. One day, I saw a piece of news in Beijing Daily that about the lack of the Beijing water resource. Its said every year Beijing use up about

3.7 billions cubic meter of water. But Miyun reservoir only contains 0.77 billions cubic meter of water, and Guanting reservoir only contains 0.19 billion cubic meter of water. This shows we are really short of water now! After reading this news, I start to change my habit, and only take one quick shower each day. I have calculated that if everyone economizes one cubic meter of water during they are taking the shower in a month; the Beijing citizens will economize 14 million cubic meter of water in only one month! In 2004, as the Beijing Irrigation Apartment reported that since 2001 Beijing has succeeded in the application of hosting the Olympic game in 2008. Beijing government had started 26 programs in order to economize the water resource. After 3 years doing this, these programs have saved 0.437

billions cubic meter of water. Its as big as a four-sized Huairou reservoir! And now, in my daily life, in my family, we always think about protecting the environment and saving the resource whenever we doing what. I still remember clearly that in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, when Liu Xiang stood up on the award platform, he was wearing a coronet, which made by olive branch. Does this green olive branch stand for the "Green Olympic"? Olive branch is the symbol of peace, and the Olympic Game is the carrier of the "peace". We should not just simply think, "No war is the meaning of peace". "Nature and human beings living in harmony" is also the root meaning of "peace". "Save the resource, protect the environment", this kind action of pursuing "Nature and human beings living in harmony", is the way that shows the core of the Olympian spirit. So we say, peace is the spirit of Olympic, Olympic is the carrier of peace, and "Green Olympic" means that we are standing in a higher platform to seek the peace.

In the last 10 seconds, the percussion rhythm of the "Fou Formation" is as intense as the roar of thunder. Chinese and Arabic numerals flash on the surfaces of the Fou

3.3 Fou are ancient Chinese percussion instruments made of clay or bronze. In as early as the Xia and Shang dynasties, Fou were used in song and dance performances.

percussion performance starts to create a rolling, thunderous welcome.

5.2 "Friends have come from afar, how happy we are." This is a well-known saying of Confucius. Two-thousand-and-eight performers beat the Fou and sing to welcome friends from

all over the world.

Confucius (551 BC-479 BC) was a famous educator and philosopher in ancient China. His thoughts deeply influenced later generations.

6. Footprints of History

Twenty-nine colossal burning footprints symbolize 29 Olympiads.

6.1 Twenty-nine colossal footprints rise to the sky in a series of fireworks. At a rate of one "footprint" per second, 29 of them march along Beijing's central axis from

Tian'anmen Square all the way to the Olympic Green and the National Stadium, symbolizing the path of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and their arrival.

6.2 The footprints consist of fireworks, representing the invention of gunpowder, one of the four great inventions in ancient China.

7. Olympic Rings

The footprints change into clusters of falling stars, which gather to form the Olympic rings.

7.1 The "footprints" pass through Tian'anmen Square and head north, with the last "footprint" exploding over the National Stadium, showering the Olympic venue with clusters of

falling stars, which gather to form the five Olympic rings.

7.2 Twenty graceful fairies float towards the ground and cluster around the Olympic rings, manifesting beauty and romance. Their costumes glow with light.

8. Entry of the Chinese National Flag

Eight flag bearers carry the flag into the Stadium horizontally and solemnly display the Chinese national flag. A child sings A Hymn to My Country.
