Just don't do it too long, perhaps you really become another person, but can’t change to yourself again. There is a book to share with you today “Jekyll and Hyde”. Dr Jekyll is a knowledgeable, respected celebrity with extraordinary ability in London. Jekyll drank a potion, then change himself into a evil man called Hyde, he hovered between good and evil all day long and his guilty feelings always tortured himself. Finally, he can’t bear the condemn from his heart, taking poisons to suicide.

Actually, We all are people like Dr Jekyll, everyone has the evil side. We just can control ourselves; we have a rational mind to judge right and wrong. Our thinking dominates our behavior to do the things that is right. But sometimes, we also need a method to release emotions, and we need to choose a way that correct and appropriate. If not, we will also become Dr Jekyll, and feel repentant in lifetime.

On the other hand, The source of happiness lies in being content with one's lot and being content in your heart. That is why rich men perhaps are not

happy while the people in poverty could feel the matchless bliss. Contentment not means get the things you want, but value the things you have.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

This novel was written by Robert Louis Stevenson. He was born on November thirteenth, 1850 and died on December third 1894.He was a famous Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer and he has great influence on English literature.

This novel mainly describe a famous and intelligent physician who turns into a evil man after taking a drug , intended to separate evil from good in a personality . Dr. Jekyll is the main character of this novel .he is known as an acknowledgeable and respectable man in London. Lots of people thought that Dr. Jekyll is nearly a perfect man for what he dose good deeds and cures the pain of his patient. He owned the good fame for what good deeds he has done. But in his inner heart he always feels tired of what role he has acted as .He wants to change himself ,so he does something evil to set free himself .he dreams to do evil things to make himself feel comfortable.

To be another man is the crazy dream for Jekyll .so he mixes some drugs and powder together to make new drugs. After taking this new medicine he becomes an ugly, small and deformed man named Mr. Hyde.Being an evil man, he can does some evil things, where as Hyde was still young and energetic .so he begins his life of evil. During this time, Hyde was looked on as a blackmailer even a murder .he could not get rid of the police who are searing for him

everywhere. So he was forced to be Jekyll again.

For he takes much medicine, he always changes himself between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde .Finally ,his strong desire to do evil things controls himself mostly. he can change himself to be Hyde naturally and unconsciously, which makes him suffered too much .some times he nearly becomes evil Hyde when he talked with friend Utterson and his mails there was a time when two-ness of men .he wished deeply to separate these two men of good and evil inside him.

Utterson is a good friend of Mr. Jekyll, he is curious about what he heard from Richard. So he spends lots of time in collect information about Jekyll and Hyde .this is a long time for him .After both Jekyll and Lanyon died, Utterson read the two letters written by Jekyll and Lanyon .Finally Utterson knows well about the complex things of his two friends .he knows the evil things Jekyll have done and the true feelings of Jekyll. He knows the surprising thing that Lanyon have saw.

The secret and complicated things become bright for Utterson .however; he could do nothing but keep up the good fame for his good friend.

After reading this novel, I feel very shock about what Jekyll have done and though. He has good fame and good social position

so he should cherish what he have owned but do some evil things .In our lives ,we should remember who we are and what we can do or not. In this way, we can always be ourselves and live a happy life. We can keep our good fame forever.

第一次听说这本书是一本杂志上作为恐怖小说来介绍的，于是就看下去了，里面的杰基尔博士是一位拥有大笔遗产，一个强健的身体和一个出色的的头脑的人。作为一名科学家，他在他从事的领域里获得了巨大的成就。外面的人把杰基尔博士看成一本正经，勤奋工作的博士，可是，自从他发明了一种变身的药剂后，他变成了海德并暴躁不安，甚至最后还杀了人，邪恶的一面彻底压制住了正义的一面，最终杰基尔选择了死亡。

我很为他感到惋惜，因为他原本能够为这个世界做出很大贡献，却最终被自己的欲望吞噬。杰基尔因为不会克制自己而被生活，被命运所戏弄，所以我们在日常生活中也要学会克制自己，日久天长，才会有一个良好的习惯，这种良好的习惯再一次统治你的心灵，可以让你在规矩的束缚下循规蹈矩的生活，慢慢它会让你受益终生。现在社会上总有很多因为意见不合而发生的惨剧例如复旦投毒案，在大学里，学会克制忍耐非常重要，只有你对他人宽容，别人才会宽容你，有什么事情说出来大家一起解决，让仁慈充满你的心灵。

In the past a few weeks, I read a book named Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde written by a talented Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. The story is told through the eyes of Mr. Utterson, a well-known and respected lawyer. Hearing about some strange occurrences concerning his client, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and a new comer, Edward Hyde, he starts his own investigation. After Dr. Henry Jekyll’s death, it finally turns out that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is actually the same person. Dr. Jekyll has been taking a special self-invented potion, which can turn him into a pure devil, Mr. Hyde. After a few days however, he finds himself unable to get rid of Mr. Hyde, which leads to his suicide in the laboratory.

Despite the similarity between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and some modern detective books, Stevenson in fact did not pay much attention to how Mr. Utterson gradually discovers the truth. Rather, he focused merely on both the inner virtue and evil of an ordinary person by creating Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, so that readers would not be distracted by other less important plots. By doing so, he managed to evoke a strong inner response in the viewer for the past 128 years. As many people have pointed out, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are not merely two characters with distinct characteristic. Instead, they represent the two contradictory sides of human nature that exist in every single individual- both virtue and evil.

Some people argue that the book actually reveals the cruelty of the real world. From their perspective, the book indicates that the power of evil is much stronger than that of virtue. However, I totally disagree with it. We have to admit the power of evil in ruining one’s soul, but the death of Dr. Jekyll, as I see it, is still the victory of virtue- an angel would rather die than submit to a devil and that’s the power of virtue. No one can deny the presence of evil in his or her soul, but does this necessarily mean we would finally become a bastard? There’s a devil hidden in the bottom of my heart, which I have never suspected. And everyone, I suppose, has such a moment in his or her life when something evil comes up to his or her mind. Most of these evil ideas might derive from the desire for power, for fame or for wealth. But there are even some that come from nowhere. But we never classified human beings as a group of bullies, because virtue in our hear

t is like a candle- as long as there is one, darkness would never really come. Human beings have survived the fierce nature for the past millions of years’ time, not because of their evil, but because of the virtue they bear. When our ancestors started to be willing to bring something good to the society, regardless of their own profit, or even at the sacrifice of their lives, they united as a whole and gained advantage over those beasts. It was the very moment that human beings became the true giants that could never be defeated.

And that’s exactly what Dr. Jekyll’s death has shown us.

General Idea（大意）: Henry Jekyll was a doctor. He liked the hard work and other people had a good opinion of him. But on the other hand, he enjoyed the wild night life so much. He learned that man has two sides --- a good side and an evil side. He found that some chemicals had a great power when he was doing some scientific work. That could change a person’s body --- they can change its shape, and make it bigger or smaller. Jekyll used it to make himself turn into another person --- Hyde, an evil little man. Hyde did a lot of bad things. And finally Jekyll found that the medicine does not have enough power to turn himself back because the evil side of him had got bigger and bigger. Finally, he killed himself because he could not get rid of Hyde.

Feelings and thoughts（读后感）: I think most of people have a double life. But I don’t mean that a person had two sides, a good side and a bad one. Everybody has the desire of getting something, it is normal. But if we don’t control it when it get bigger and bigger, we will lose ourselves.
