篇一:作文典范

080 Describe a custom from your country that you would like people from other countries to adopt.

Different cultures all share pride in their unique social customs. If I were to choose one custom from my country which foreigners would adopt, I would definitely choose filial piety.

Firstly, I’ll talk about what filial piety is all about. Raised in a civilization that focuses primarily on ranks and social stratum, I agree with the idea that children should respect their parents, for better or worse. Since parents give life to us, to some extent, we owe our lives to them. Therefore, it’s important that children do not disobey their parents, which will cause sadness in them. Instead, we as children should try best to make their lives more comfortable, both physically and mentally.

In my mind’s eye, filial piety is an important custom to learn. Because with the accentuation on personal freedom and rights, some youths forget the origins of their lives and even make unreasonable requirements from their parents. Filial piety reminds us that we can pay respect to our parents without sacrificing our freedom. For example, when I have different opinions with them, it’s reasonable to listen to their advice but form my own conclusion, which hopefully will not disturb them too much. This is true “filial piety” in our culture.

Another aspect of filial piety is to be economically responsible for your parents’ lives after their retirement. In some sense, this is the materialization of respect for parents. Filial piety provides a fair chance for children to pay back their parents, at least physically.

I’m also in favor of this concept, since parents have been raising us for the past decades or so. It’s essential for a person’s growth that he learns the responsibility to raise someone else, which prepares him better to form a family. This also showcases that the children are already economically independent and parents can rely on them for the rest of their lives, which is greatly emphasized in traditional Chinese culture.

To sum up, filial piety is the cultural custom I want to share with foreign friends, because it reflects the essence of Chinese culture.

Should Firecrackers Be Banned?

(a)

Some people think that setting off firecrackers is a good thing. They say that it is an ancient Chinese custom which should be preserved. They also claim that firecrackers make festivals and holiday occasions more colorful and entertaining for both adults and children.

On the other hand, there are many people who say that firecrackers should be banned. They point out that firecrackers are responsible for fires which destroy property, and for injuries suffered both by the people who set them off and by innocent bystanders. They also say that firecrackers are a waste of money and resources.

My own point of view is that we should preserve the old custom of letting off firecrackers, while at the same time making them harmless. We can do this by banning firecrackers from public places. In addition, we should restrict the setting off of firecrackers to festival days.

(b)

Keeping Pets

There is no denying the fact that keeping pets has been a hotly debated topic in China. People’s opinions differ sharply on this issue. Some hold the positive view. They say that pets like cats, dogs and birds can reduce, to some extent, loneliness for both adults and children, especially for the old, the single, housewives and the disabled. Without pets, these people’s life would become dull and cheerless.

Others, however, hold the opposite view. They maintain that keeping pets should be banned. They point out that pets are responsible for noises, which disturb people’s rest, and for injuries suffered both by the people who keep them and by innocent neighbors. They also argue that keeping pets is a waste of money and resources.

Personally, I believe that we should not go to extremes. On the one hand, we should allow people to keep pets; on the other hand, we should take measures to solve the problems caused by pets. This can be done by banning pets from public places. In addition, large and dangerous pets should be restricted to special areas.

或Weighing the arguments of both sides, I am inclined to agree with the latter. Anyway, we can lessen our loneliness and express our love toward animals in other ways. And it is my belief that only by placing man and other species on an equal basis can we expect to have a lively and colorful world.

3. 我认为……

Should Parents Send Their Kids to Art Classes? To this phenomenon people’s attitudes differ sharply. Some hold the positive view. They claim that attending art classes can help nurture children’s interest or tap their potentials in art.

This, they believe, will contribute to a child’s all-sided development. Besides, they argue that mastering skills of one art or two can add to a child’s edge of competition in the modern world.

Others, however, hold the opposite view. They point out that not all children are interested or talented in art, or a child may not be fond of all forms of art. Forcing them to go to art classes may only restrict their freedom and affect their healthy growth.

Personally, I believe that we should not go to extremes. On the one hand, it must be admitted that going to art classes is and effective means to find out children’s talent in art and it is conducive to their sound development. On the other hand, parents should not deprive their children of their right to choose to learn what they truly like. Remember, the fittest is the best. 2009年6月

Importance of a Name. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below.

1. 有人说名字(或名称)很重要

On the Importance of a Name

There is no denying the fact that it is a controversial topic whether names are important or not. Some hold the positive view. They claim that a good name, or a name that can be easily remembered, can bring one a lot more opportunities than others. Some Chinese may also believe that a name designed according to the traditional theory of five elements can bring good luck.

Others, however, hold the opposite view. They argue that a name is nothing but a code to distinguish one from another. A person with a “good” name may not be as successful as the name indicates. In the same way, a person who has a common or casually given name can also achieve tremendous success.

Personally, I believe that both sides have something right, so we should not go to extremes. On the one hand, we have to admit that a well designed name can help a person to some extent. On the other hand, we should not exaggerate the effect of a name on a person’s fate. Anyway, a person’s success mainly depends on his hard work and desirable personalities.

Replace Traditional Books? You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below.

1. 随着信息技术的发展,电子图书越来越多

2. 有人认为电子图书会在将来取代传统图书

3. 我的观点

Will E-books Replace Traditional Books? information technology. Taking a look around, we can find examples too numerous to list. Actually, modern readers seem to spend more time on e-books than on traditional ones.

e-books will take the

place of traditional books in the future. Some hold the positive view. They claim that it is natural for books to be come electronic as mankind steps into a digital age. Compared with traditional books, e-books have some obvious advantages. For one thing, it is convenient to read on line as modern people have easy access to the Internet. For another, reading e-books saves money.

Personally, I believe that e-books cannot replace all traditional books. First, you can mark a traditional book and write your comments in the margin but you can hardly do that on e-books. Secondly, to many people, only the smell of print and the feel of paper can provide the true sense of reading and learning. Therefore, in my opinion, traditional books will still exist in the future.

The Career I Pursue

Unlike many other college students, I thought long and hard about my future before embarking on my studies. I then sought advice from my teachers and my parents about the best life path for me to choose. Finally, I settled on journalism as the career which would best suit my temperament.

Although the financial rewards has two particular attractions for me. First, by supplying people with the information they need every day, it fulfills a socially useful function. Second, it is a job full of novelty, unlike most occupations, which involve simply routine work.

In order to prepare myself for my future career in the world of the media—whether it be

working for a newspaper or a magazine, or in the sphere of radio and television—I have carefully selected my college course. My basic fields of study are Mass Communications and Economics. The Great Wall is one of the wonders of the world that created by human beings! If you come to China without climbing the Great Wall, it's just like going Paris without visiting the Eiffel Tower; or going to Egypt without visiting the Pyramids! Men often say, "He who doest not reach the Great Wall is not a true man."In fact, it began as independent walls for different states when it was first built, and did not become the "Great Wall" until the Qin Dynasty. However, the wall we see today, starting from Shanhaiguan Pass in the east to Jiayunguan Pass in the west, was mostly built during

四、Dumplings Dumplings are one of the Chinese people’s favorite traditional dishes. According to an ancient Chinese legend, dumplings were first made by the medical saint---Zhang Zhongjing. There are three steps involved in making dumplings: 1) make dumpling wrappers out of dumpling flour; 2) prepare the dumpling stuffing; 3) make dumplings and boil them. With thin and elastic dough skin, fresh and tender stuffing, delicious taste, and unique shapes, dumplings are worth eating hundreds of times. There’s an old saying that claims, “Nothing could be more delicious than dumplings”. During the Spring Festival and other holidays, or when treating relatives and friends, Chinese people like to follow the auspicious custom of eating dumplings. To Chinese people who show high reverence for family love, having dumplings at the moment the old year is replaced

六、Chinese Kung Fu Chinese kung fu, or Chinese martial arts, carries traditional Chinese culture in abundance. It is a traditional Chinese sport which applies the art of attack and defence in combat and the motions engaged with a series of skill and tricks. The core idea of Chinese king fu is derived from the Confucian theory of both “the mean and harmony” and “cultivating qi” (otherwise known as nourishing one’s spirit). Meanwhile, it also includes thoughts of Taoism and Buddhism. Chinese kung fu has a long history, with multi-various sects and many different boxing styles, and emphasizes coupling hardness with softness and internal and external training. It contains the ancient great thinkers’ pondering of life and the universe. The skills in wielding the 18 kinds of weapons named by the later generations mainly involve the skills of bare-handed boxing, such as shadow boxing (Taijiquan), form and will boxing (Xingyiquan), eight trigram palm (Baguazhang), and the skills of kung fu weaponry, such as the skill of using swords, spears,

After a long period of development, it finally became a unique character system that embodies phonetic sound, image, idea, and rhyme at the same time. The writing system, which was extremely advanced in ancient times, began with inscriptions on bones and tortoise shells, and these are regarded as the original forms of Chinese characters. Afterwards, Chinese characters went through numerous calligraphic styles: bronze inscriptions, official script, regular script, cursive script, running script, etc. Chinese characters are usually round outside and square inside, which is rooted in ancient Chinese beliefs of an orbicular sky and a rectangular Earth. The five basic strokes of Chinese characters are “---“ (the horizontal stroke) “│” (the vertical stroke), “/”( the left-falling stroke), “\” (the right-falling stroke), and “乙” (the turning

stroke).

八、Chinese Chopsticks The Chinese way of eating with chopsticks is unique in the world. The recorded history of chopsticks started more than three thousand years ago. Chopsticks were named zhu in ancient Chinese. They look deceptively simple to use, but possess multi-various functions, such as clamping, turning over, lifting up, raking, stirring, scooping, poking, tearing, and so on. Chopsticks were taken as an auspicious mascot by ordinary people in ancient China. For example, the partial tone of chopsticks is often used by people as a metaphor at weddings to indicate a blessing or benediction for the couple to have a baby soon. Unlike using a knife and fork

or one’s own hands, a pair of chopsticks also implies the meaning of “Harmony is what matters”. Chopsticks are highly praised by Westerners as a hallmark of ancient oriental

civilization.

Taoism advocates the value of a human being’s life, recommends the discarding of all desires and worries from one’s mind, and encourages the cultivation of moral character and the nourishment of human nature. The following is an example of Laozi’s golden saying: The way that can be told of is not an unvarying way; The names that can be named are not unvarying names. It was from the nameless that Heaven and Earth sprang; The named is but the mother that rears the ten thousand creatures, each after its kind. Truly, only he that rids himself forever of desire can see the

secret essences; He that has never rid himself of desire can see only the outcomes.

great inventions of the ancient Chinese. As early as the Shang and Zhou Dynasties

(1600BC-256BC), the Chinese people’s silk-weaving techniques had reached an extremely high level. During the Western Han Dynasty (206BC-25AD), Zhang Qian, an outstanding diplomat, travelled around central Asia and connected China with the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean, opening up a new era of Sino-foreign trade, exchange and communication. In the Qin Dynasty (221BC---206BC), people already used feathers of different hardness and bamboo trunks to make brushes. During the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), man-made ink was used instead of natural ink. After paper was invented by the Chinese, bamboo slips, wooden tablets, brocade and silk, which originally functioned as writing surfaces, gradually faded out. The ink stone was first developed with the use of writing brushes and ink. After the Song Dynasty (960AD---1279AD), the “Four Treasure of the Study” particularly referred to hubi, the writing brush produced in Huzhou, Zhejiang province; huimo, the ink stick produced in Huizhou, Anhui province; xuan paper, a kind of paper produced in Xuanzhou, Anhui province; and duanyan, the ink stone made in Zhaoqing, Guangdong province (Zhaoqing was earlier called Duanzhou). Indeed, the Four Treasures of the Study” have writtin the whole Chinese

civilization, as it is.

The Origin of Chinese New Year

ó¢ó?×÷????The Origin of Chinese New Year

????′o?úμ?óéà′

????The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring . Its origin is too old to be traced. Several

explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese solely means year, was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year.

????One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very scared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to subdue Nian. To Nian he said, I hear say that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts of prey on earth instead of people who are by no means of your worthy opponents? So, it did swallow many of the beasts of prey on earth that also harrassed people and their domestic animals from time to time. ????After that, the old man disappeared riding the beast Nian. He turned out to be an immortal god. Now that Nian is gone and other beasts of prey are also scared into forests, people begin to enjoy their peaceful life. Before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end to scare away Nian in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most.

????From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation. The term Guo Nian, which may mean Survive the Nian becomes today Celebrate the Year as the word guo in Chinese having both the meaning of pass-over and observe. The custom of putting up red paper and firing fire-crackers to scare away Nian should it have a chance to run loose is still around. However, people today have long forgotten why they are doing all this, except that they feel the color and the sound add to the excitement of the celebration.

篇五:作文两篇

saving up money or spending it?

Saving money or using tomorrow’s money, it’s a question. More and more people prefer to use tomorrow’s money with the influence of western thoughts. But in my opinion, the first option is a better one.

Several years ago, there was a famous story about this question. A story about the different life styles between an American old lady and a Chinese old lady. The American old lady uses tomorrow’s money to buy a house and pay back the loan in her whole life. The Chinese old lady saves money and buys a house before her death. This story is often used to show the benefits of using tomorrow’s money. Nevertheless, taking this story as an example is a little extreme. Using tomorrow’s money needs the following conditions:a steady job, a good wage and a light burden. Fifty percent of people don’t own these conditions, using tomorrow’s money may put them into trouble. For instance, if they can’t pay back the loan, the bank will take their houses and cars back.

Although saving money is slow and hard, it is safer for us to hold our property. Furthermore, according to Chinese traditional custom, saving money is more acceptable.

it is difficult for us to keep fit

nowadays, why?

Nowadays more and more people are concerned about their health. But how to keep healthy? Different people may give different answers to this question. In my opinion, it is essential to do the following.

First, it is absolutely necessary to take some exercise every day. Research shows that getting plenty of exercise make the heart beat faster and the lungs work harder. This strengthens the heart, reduces the chance of heart attack, and helps lower bloodpressure. That's why more and more people are becoming active in various kinds of sports and exercises. Every morning many people get up early and take much exercise. Some practice shadowboxing and swordplay while others run, jog, walk or dance to music. In the afternoon, there are also many people keen on sports. Some play basketball or volleyball or table tennis, others go in for gymnastics or track events. Through sports and exercise, people become healthier and stronger.

Medical researchers have proved that what people eat affects their health. They advise people to eat more fruit and vegetables and less

meat such as beef and pork because meat contains more fat than poultry and fish. Fat can build up in the arteries, block the flow of blood, and cause a heart attack or stroke.

Getting rid of bad habits like smoking and drinking alcohol is also an important way to keep healthy. Smoking and drinking alcohol injure one's health a great deal, and therefore should be given up. Unfortunately few people follow this advice.

If people follow these three ways of keeping fit, they greatly improve their health.
