10 point Safety Check before Launching Sky Lanterns

1. Ensure that the wind is very light - 7 miles per hour or below is suitable for launching Sky Lanterns of all sizes.

2. Only launch Sky Lanterns in a large clear space away from trees, powerlines and buildings. Do not use Sky Lanterns within 5 miles of an airport. 3. If there is a slight breeze, ensure that when launched, your sky lanterns do not fly towards buildings, trees, airports, roads or any area they may pose a danger.

4. Ensure that all spectators stand upwind of the people launching the Sky Lanterns.

5. It is advisable to have a bucket of water or some sand close by in case of emergency.

6. Sky Lanterns are not a toy. Sky Lanterns should only be launched by a responsible Adult.

7. Do not use during prolonged periods of dry weather.

8. Do not launch torn or damaged Sky Lanterns.

9. Do not Launch Sky Lanterns if the glow could be misinterpreted as a distress signal.

10. Read all safety instructions carefully before launching Sky Lanterns.

STANDARD LANTERNS INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

1. Carefully open out the Sky Lantern and expand it

to its full size.

2. Remove the Fuel cell from its packaging and

attach the 4 wires to the wires under the

Sky Lantern.

3. Open the Sky Lantern out and hold it upright.

Light the Fuel Cell in several places to ensure an

even burn. Be careful not to let the flame touch the

paper.

4. The Fuel Cell should be left to burn until the Sky Lantern has

filled sufficiently with hot air. When it is ready to fly, it will want

to pull out of your hands (30-40 seconds).

Release the Sky Lantern with two hands, whilst making a wish -

look up, admire and enjoy!

Lantern Festival Lantern is my favorite festival among all the Chinese festivals. The 15th day is the first night to see a full moon. So the day is also called Yuan Xiao Festival in China. According to the Chinese tradition, at the very beginning of a new year, when there is a bright full moon hanging in the sky, there should be thousands of colorful lanterns hung out for people toappreciate. At this time, people will try to solve the puzzles on the lanterns and eat yuanxiao and get all their families united in the joyful atmosphere . In the old days,people usually hung lanterns in the gardens, outside the houses, and on the boats. These lanterns are signposts to guide guests and spirits of ancestors to the Lunar celebration. Some are in the shapes of butterflies, birds, flowers, and boats. Other are shaped like dragon, fruit and animal symbols of that year. The special food for the Lantern Festival is Yuen Sin or Tong Yuen. These are round dumplings made with sticky rice flour. They can be filled and served as a sweet snack or made plain and cooked in a soup with vegetables, meat and dried shrimp. The round shape of the dumpling is a symbol of wholeness, completeness and unity. So the most important thing is to gather together in this festival, every member in one’s family shares a warm time together on the day of each year. The Dragon Boat Festival ,also called the Duanwu Festival ,is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar（农历). People always eat rice dumplings and watch dragon boat races to celebrate it.

The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races,especially in the southern places where there are many rivers and lakes. It is very popular.

The rice dumpling is made of glutinous rice,meat and so on. You can eat different kinds of rice dumplings.They are very delicious.

And Dragon Boat Festival is for Qu Yuan. He is an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide(自杀） by drowning himself （沉在河里）in a river. The local people, knowing him to be a good man, decided to throw food into the river to feed the fish so they would not eat Qu's body. People express their thoughts and respect to Qu Yuan in this way.

The Spring Festival

The Spring Festival， Chinese New Year，is the most important festival for all of us.

Several days before the new year，people begin to prepare for it. Farmers kill pigs， sheep， cocks and hens or buy meat fish and vegetables. Houses are cleaned；Colourful lanterns (灯笼)are hung at the gate.

All family members get together on New Year'Eve to have a big meal. At the same time，everyone celebrates to each other.At about 12 o'clock，some parents and children light crackers.The whole sky is lighted brightly. We may watch the fireworks excitedly.How busy it is！ On the first early moring of one year，people often get up early and they send best wishes to each other and say ‘ Happy New Year”. The Chinese New Year lasts fifteen days. So during the fifteen days， we always visit our relatives from door to door. At that time，children are the happiest because they can get many red packets form their parents，grandparents， uncles，aunts and so on. The last day of the Chinese New Year is another festival.
