Have you ever asked your relatives or friends if there is Wi-Fi in their houses? Have you ever searched for Wi-Fi when you are at restaurants or hotels? The answers will probably be “Yes”. Most of us want Wi-Fi everywhere as if we can't live without it. But we can only use free Wi-Fi in some public places. We still have to spend some money accessing(连接) the Internet at most time. Here comes a piece of good news.

A rich, powerful organization in the USA called the Media Development Investment Fund(MDIF) has decided to change the age of online computing(计算) completely by giving free Wi-Fi to every person on Earth. They will send up hundreds of satellites into low Earth orbit(轨道) in 2015.

This is because they have made a survey and found that only 60% of the world's population have been able to get information on the Internet. And this is also because many countries are unable to offer people the necessary infrastructure(基础设施) to access the web.

We can expect to use free Wi-Fi everywhere in the near future.

文章讲述了当?a href="http://www.zw2.cn/zhuanti/guanyuluzuowen/" target="_blank" class="keylink">路浅A餍械腤i-Fi。

1. costs 根据文章第一段句子“We still have to spend some money accessing(连接) the Internet at most time.”

2. available 根据文章第二段句子“(MDIF) has decided to change the age of online computing(计算) completely by giving free Wi-Fi to every person on Earth.”

3. Reason(s)/Cause(s) 根据文章第三段句子“This is because they have made a survey and found that only 60% of the world's population have been able to get information on the Internet.”

4. provide 根据文章第三段句子“many countries are unable to offer people the necessary infrastructure(基础设施) to access the web”中的关键词offer可知很多国家不能够为人们提供搜寻网络的基础设施。provide sb. with sth.

5. cover/s 根据文章最后一段“We can expect to use free Wi-Fi everywhere in the near future.”

Many people believe that life has smiled to Yang Mi: at the age of 4, she got her first TV play role; at 16, she became a model for a fashion magazine; at 18, she went to her dream college —— Beijing Film Academy. Last year, the 24-year-old actress played bad girl Luo Qingchuan in the time-travelling TV play, Palace. The play became a big success and made Yang very famous.

Could she be any luckier? Yang doesn?t think luck had anything to do with her success. “Every chance is gained ( 获得)from the efforts I?ve made,” said Yang. People now think she?s very hard-working. She still remembers the time when people gave her the cold eyes. Some treated her with little respect. They didn?t want to help her in her time of need. “I have to thank them because they gave me the drive to prove myself,” she said. That?s why she is glad to help others when they are in need.

Trees are one of the oldest citizens of our earth. Just like us, trees change a lot when they grow. At one to three years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns(刺) to tell animals not to go near. Most young trees have large, deep green leaves so that they can catch enough sunlight and change it into their food and energy.

When trees are 4 years old, they begin to grow very fast and become strong enough to face challenges(挑战) in

life.

At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow more slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruit.

It is not until the trees are 20 to 50 years old that they become real adults. The trees reach their largest sizes.

Adult trees give us many things such as oxygen (氧气) and natural beauty. If we give them good care, they will go on to live healthily for many years.

As times goes on, trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time, they still have their important

place in nature. In many ways, the life of trees is like our own life experience. Enjoy every minute of the life of the trees and take care of them!

Bollywood: the Hollywood of India

You might be surprised to learn that India produces about 800 movies a year, and

that number continues to grow. Just as the movie Capital of the United States is

Hollywood, the movie capital of India is Bombay (孟买), but it is usually called

"Bollywood", a combination(结合) of the words Bombay and Hollywood. No Bollywood movie is thought complete without a few songs and dances. In fact,

music is an important part of Bollywood movies. Even a bad movie can still do well if

the music is good. Music directors are sometimes more popular than the film stars. A

Bollywood movie has five to six songs with at least three songs to show what the

dances mean.

Bollywood may be different from Hollywood in music, but it is very like

Hollywood in several ways. If Tom Cruise can hold a gun, so can the Bollywood hero

Sharukh Khan. Hollywood stars are followed by news reporters just as often as

Hollywood stars. The persona! lives of actors and actresses catch the headlines(头版

头条), just as they do in the United States.

The Oscars are a very exciting time of the year for actors and actresses in America,

Bollywood has its own form of the Oscars, and they are also very exciting.

When we talk about how teenagers are getting worse and worse now, most young people don’t agree.

Teenagers always say they are growing up. They can have part-time jobs. They can drive cars. And they can even get married when they’re a little bit older.

Their parents say, “Our children are very good. They like pop music, but they play it in their own rooms. They help in the house. You know they feel bored sometimes because there’s nothing interesting in the neighborhood, no clubs, and no sports. They have nothing to do.”

A teacher says that he believes most young people are very kind. He thinks that it’s not bad for young people to like loud music because it can give them lots of energy and make them feel excited. Also, a lot of young people work very hard at school, and they can get good jobs later.

Lewis, a sixteen-year-old boy said, “I have passed all my examinations, but I can’t get a part-time job because older people always think I’m lazy.”

In my opinion, a lot of teenagers are very kind. They belong to community work groups. They help old people,

I am Indian and I come from New Delhi, the capital of India. Having a guest come to our home is a very big thing for us.

When guests come to visit, they get a lot of respect(尊重) and care from everyone in the family. The first thing we do is to call every family member to meet the person when the guest is in the home. Then someone younger in the family has to wash the feet and hands of the guests. Then we put food at the table. Nobody can start eating food until the guest takes a bit of his share. After he finishes eating, his plate will be taken away and he’ll be given one bowl and a mug(大杯) of water at the table to wash his hands.

For Egyptians, guests are just like a blessing(祝福) in their house and they treat them very respectfully. In Egypt, if people go to someone else’s house, they do not enter the house until the house keeper comes to the door and invites them to come in. Guests of any age will not be different in how they are treated. No matter who come, young or old, a guest is our guest.

Ashley Jurinka said that in American houses having a guest is “kind of big thing”. She said they respect every guest who visits them. “The first thing we do when a guest is inside the house is to introduce ourselves, and then we ask them if they need anything,” she said. She also said that the age of the guest matters. They treat young guests differently from older guests.

What do you think of the most important inventions in the world? The TV? The printing? The telephone? Or the computer? A report shows that they are not the only important inventions. Here are three other important inventions.

One of the simplest inventions is the toilet. Before toilets, waste ran into rivers from people’s houses. Illnesses were common in big cities, and it was often difficult to find clean drinking water.

Animal food is another important invention. Before the invention, most animals were killed every autumn because there was not enough food for them in winter. After hay(干草) became a kind of common animal food, animals could live through the long winter.

The third great invention is glasses. Glasses help people read, write and do “close work” after the age of 45. Without glasses, the world would be difficult for the people above 45.

A different way of learning is widely used in our English study.

Before class, we make study plans first. Then we look up the new words, listen to the recording and read the text. When we meet problem, we can’t solve by ourselves. We always write them down in our notebooks.

In class, we sit in groups to discuss the problems freely. The teacher always offers help when we need. After discussion, it is time for us to give a report to the class. We also make conversations in pairs and practise a lot. It is really good for our listening and speaking.

After class, we have less homework now so we can go to the library to read English books, magazines and newspapers. We can also surf the Internet for useful information.

In a word, we enjoy the new way of studying. We can make more progress in our study.

About three hundred words in the English language come from the names of people. Almost every one of these words has an interesting story behind it. The word “Sandwich”, for example, is very popular in English. If we want to know the story behind it, we must know something about an English nobleman (贵族) called Sandwich.

Sandwich lived in the eighteenth century. He was rich, but he liked to play cards for money. He often played for 24 hours and did not stop to have his meals. He ordered his servants9佣人) to bring some meat and bread, and he played while eating. He put the meat between two pieces of bread, and he held the food in his left hand while he played with he his right hand. People liked Sandwich’s idea and began to eat bread and meat in this way.

Eating in space is different from that on earth. The food that astronauts(宇航员carry with them doesn't look like the food you eat.

Some food is carried in closed bags. It is cooked and frozen before the astronauts get it. All the water is removed from the food. In the space capsule(太空舱), the astronaut puts the water back. He"shoots" hot or cold water into the food bag with a special gun(枪). He eats the food through a small hole in the bag.

Other foods come in bite sizes. The astronaut puts a whole piece into his mouth a time. There can't be crumbs(食物碎屑).Crumbs would float around the capsule and get in the way. Meat, cakes and cereal often come in bite size pieces.

Astronauts can't drink water from open cups. The water would float in drops in the air. The water is put in the special gun. The astronaut shoots the water into his mouth.
