Scarlett , a very personality figures ,the two mans she love ,neither does she know about. Scarlett can deal with a nation at war, Atlanta burning, the Union Army carrying off everything from her beloved Tara, the carpetbaggers who arrive after the war.

Gone With the Wind, an all-time best-seller by Mitchell margaret (1900-1949)American writer.Margaret Mitchell is the popular author of "Gonewith the Wind" 1936), thetale of Scarlett O'Hara and her tragedies and triumphs through the Civil War and Reconstruction. Mitchell was awarded the ulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for her novel.

Mitchell, is a legendary recollection of the last brilliance of the Old South. The writer's debut novel was an instant success. And the story has been bestowed an even further reaching popularity since Vivian Leigh presented a vivid translation to the screen of Katie Scarlett O'Hara, a southern belle raised in her father's white-pillared plantation Tara. A climax of Hollywood, from Director Victor Fleming for MGM, Gone with the Wind is more than a vicissitude, it is also an old, lost culture revisited.

It is Old South, which today is no more than a dream remembered. People were once there, living with the high strong slaves' songs in the quarters, in security, peace and eternity. Here, Scarlett spends her young maiden years. She is well disciplined by her mother, but her blazing green eyes always betray her covert capricious self; the one who enjoys parties and the surrounding ofbeaus. She dreams to marry the noble Ashley Wilkes. The impending war shatters the golden peace of the South, and leaves many lives permanently changed. Plantations, treasures, and honor are ruined. Scarlett is made a most peculiar widow by the war, and then compelled into a second marriage in continuation of her struggle for the salvation of Tara. And her third marriage to Rhett Butler is also jeopardized because of her secret, stubborn ardency for Ashley.

To Scarlett, I was compelled to admire, admire her strong and brave, admire her to lay down in the environment, farm workers previously suffered education, admire her to disregard the community to create their own expression of the cause . She is in the whole story, all a person full of fighting will full of vitality . I appreciated most , it is this " Tomorrow is another day of hers.". Promising forever, full of fighting will , will never give up, never desperate. I think I'm moved by her.So, whenever I meet difficulty, the mood is not good, I will tell oneself :" Tomorrow is another day."'Gone with the Wind' is absolutely a good book that is worth sampling repeatedly, the characters are graceful , the plot rises and falls, exciting boldly and unconstrainedly, though the subjective factor because of the author among them , the appraisal on U.S.A.'s Civil War is not objective and overall, but as to angle of literature, this one fine piece of writing generation definitely absolutely, worth visiting.

The Scarlet Letter

《The Scarlet Letter》written by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a novel concerns souls.Everyone has his own soul.Someone defends his soul, someone does damage to it,even there are people who lose their own souls. In consequence, this world is filled with human stories in thousands of postures.

“A” is the first letter of the alphabetic which means the beginning of one thing. However, inn Christians? tradition, the beginning indicates deprivation and original sin that no one can get rid of.According to the Bible,we are all the seed of Adam.Nevertheless,Adam and Eve were punished by Jehovah for their stealing to eat love forbidden fruit.Owing to this,we,who are the descendants of Adam and Eve,are born guilty. In Puritans? eyes,Hester Prynne is a dissolute and immoral woman. They take Hester into custody just to show the dignity of God. So foolish people they are!An ugly woman cries:“This woman has brought shame upon us all,and ought to die.Is there not law for it? Truly there is,both in the Scripture and the statute book.”(2009:56)From this description,we can easily find that people there are so indifferent that they seem to be captivate by the church. We see,Hester is so common a woman who is dying for love and does not want to be forced to compromise to reality.“She had dark and abundant hair,so glossy that it threw off the sunshine with a gleam, and a face which, besides being beautiful from regularity of

feature and richness of complexion, had the impressiveness belonging to a marked brow and deep black eyes”.(57)Hester is such a good woman that she shows great love to her beloved--Mr Dimmesdale. This religious entanglement of emotions is difficult for people who have no religion belief to understand.I am such a person who can not understand.Religion has been part of the Westerners?s life and it must be very painful to leave the religious life. But I do not have a religious experience, so it is hard for me to understand the hero's psychology. These are the obstacles for me to understand the novel and I find it hard to overcome it.

Hester?s abundant emotions are not only indicated in her enthusiasm for love, but also her devotion to life, her utmost care for her daughter, and indomitable struggle against appress.Apparently, she submits herself to the adjustment and bears a lot to carry on her life. However, she keeps struggling with the puritanism inwardly. Here, in chapter 18,we can see the vivid words:“She and wandered, without rule or guidance,in a moral wilderness;as vast, the gloom of which they were now holding a colloquy that was to decide their fate. Her intellect and heart had their home,as it were,in a decent place, where she roamed as freely as the wild Indian in his woods.”(215)She insists that things she does with Mr Dimmesdale are pure.Hester lives in a small town, swallowing humiliation and bearing a heavy load, not that she wants to atone for her crime, but that she shows her resistance against puritanism.

Then,I would like to give some of my analyses upon the symbolism of the word ?A?.First, the most important one,A indicates the great Affection between Hester and Dimmesdale. She could escape from that place, but she is brave enough to face the reality and bear the sufferings on her own.Luckily, her warm heart wins people?s acceptance. So,here, "A" is a symbol of Able. Finally,Hester with her virtues wins the respect of the people, "A" became the symbol of the Angel. With the development of the plot, Hester gradually moves towards awakening and mature, tenacious against the Puritan rule, and thus the "A" has the meaning of an indomitable woman-- Amazon. The letter A is a symbol of love and it also represents a punishment from the God. The presence of the scarlet letter saves the soul of Hester, regulates her virtues, make people painful but enjoy the regained life, the author gives A multiple meanings.

During this period,Dimmesdale is also in suffering,he can do nothing for Hester but to watch her being teased at ,and no matter how much he loves his daughter Pearl, he cannot let others know their true relationship between each other. He suffers from his conscience. He cried in the forest :“I have laughed, in bitterness and agony of heart, at the contrast between what I

seem and what I am! And Satan laughs at it!” (206) So here,A in Dimmesdale,is given another meaning--Agony.

Little Pearl brings me happiness when reading the novel.Maybe she

is the only bright character who can bring us cheers. She is the daughter of Hester and Dimmesdale. First of all,the word “pearl”comes from the Bible which means a very precious thing.Recorded in the Bible, God allows a merchant to sell all their possessions to buy a pearl, and tells him that this pearl is his paradise.Hester pays a heavy price for the arrival of the Pearl. Daughter Pearl occupies a very important position in her heart, Pearl is all of her wealth. The “Scarlet Letter”was adapted into a film in 1994.Hester who is acted by Demi Moore in the movie looks just like a Pearl.

An Reading Response to Fairy Tales of Andersen

(安徒生童话读后感)

I want to recommend the book Fairy Tales of Andersen to you.In my opinion, everyone in our class must have read the tales of Andersen more or less, but the English edition may be not familiar to you. This is the reason why I recommend this book to you.

First of all ,I want to introduce Hans Christian Andersen to you.Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark to a poor family. He left home as a 14-year-old to seek his fortune at the theater in Copenhagen. Andersen began writing plays and poetry before he left for Copenhagen, but it was not until 1835 that he published the first of the fairy tales that would bring him international renown. Since then, over 200 fairy tales have enjoyed undiminished popularity, it providing the basis for favorite American

interpretations such as Disney 's The Little Mermaid.Andersen’s representative works contained--- The Little Mermaid, The Little Match Girl, The Snow Queen, The Red Shoes, The Brave Tin Soldier and many others. These are a collection of tales which appeal to all minds alike. They are told with skill, and possess a charm which carries on the reader.

After reading Fairy Tales of Anderson, I always savor the stories. It tells about the importance we should give to the voice of our conscience such as Little Claus and big Claus. Not only that, it reminds us that we should sharpen our consciences towards what is right and good. For we all have to stand before God one day to be judged. But everybody tends to forget nowadays.

The simplicity of Anderson ’s style touches my heart. Naturally he called on the trolls, tricksters and ice creatures who were part of the oral tradition of his peasant background, but much of what he did with them came directly out of his own sad, fertile brain.Everybody might be awaken to their true positions in life from the book . It is absolutely necessary that this book finds its way into the hands of each and every child. Such stories and morals are hard to find nowadays. I think the best thing about them is that they all contain those morals which lead our lives. For example, both The Story Of A Mother and She Was Good For Nothing tell us how truly great the mother are.

There are many parts I like:"The Ugly Duckling" tells of a homely little bird born in a barnyard who suffers abuse from his surroundings until, much to his delight, he matures into a beautiful swan, the most beautiful bird of all. The story is beloved around the world as a tale about personal transformation for the better." The Angel" , which about an angel and a dead child gathering flowers to carry to Heaven, reminds us of the punishment which we would accumulate on the ill-use and under-use of our talents and situations. "The Little Mermaid lifted her glorified eyes towards the sun, and felt them, for the first time, filling with tears.”The Mermaid's sacrifice is not incidental, or because she made the mistake of loving a human, or because she wanted a soul, or be a complete human, or as her final rite of passage.

Obviously ,as human beings and ‘children of God’, we should possess the essential goodness. The fairy tales show us about the importance of kindness, of perseverance, of obedience which we should follow in life.

I love the theme of Andersen's Fairy tales : "There is no love greater than this: That someone gives his life for his friend." It also points out the importance of wisdom in a person's life. we can see more important aspects of life.

From what has been mentioned above,I believe you must have different views on this book. After reading this book, you will gain the tastes of your childhood.
