What’s wrong with the education in China?

Problems

When I was a little kid,I was very interested in English,history and math.And I learnt a lot of things from English cartoons and historical movies.Albert Einstein said,”Interest is the best teacher.”.I like acquiring knowledge that I am concerned about by myself.

This situation changed when I was in senior one.At that time my English grade was good but I don’t like English class because my teacher always talked about grammar and vocabulary.One day I was asked to write down some new words on the blackboard.I can’t finish it because I didn’t preview.After calss my teacher had a chat with me.I said I did’t like the way that teachers teached me.My teacher said,”I don’t like this way either but we teachers have to because of college entrance examination.This is the thing that you can’t avoid.So you can’t do everything you like because you are a Chinese student.”

After listening to her words,I realized I had to give up my interests and fought for a good college.Luckily I changed my mind so I can be in SEU,but unluckily we lost our interests. Some students didn’t changed and they couldn’t enter a good college.However,can we said they are bad students?Of course not.To get better grade,I swam in the sea of physics instead of history because we didn’t learn it.We also had some things in science that don’t need to learn because college entrance examination don’t check here.To be honest,I always fight for my grade,not interest.

Reasons

My purpose is not to attack college entrance examination.The reason that we have to lose our interests is eolment rate.Every senior high school aspires higher eolment rate so that they can get fame and earn more money.High schools compare with other schools. Also parents put pressure on teachers.If their children don’t get good grades,they will blame these on teachers.Our teachers have to make leaders and parents satisfied,so they put pressure on us.This situation that grade is everything is not someone’s fault.I don’t mean that we should cancel exams.Instead,I think college entrance examination is the most fair way to compete.Now adults ask children,”How is your grades?”,not”What have you learnt?”.This reports that it’s a social problem.

Solutions

I think that the government should pay more for children’s education and gradually eliminate education area differences.For example,Tsinghua University’s lowest criterion of examination in Beijing is much lower in Anhui.That means Anhui students have to pay much more effort to achieve the same goal.Also,parents need to know that grade is not everything and we should learn many things not only books.I believe ,with the development of China,the education in China will become real “quality education”.

The way of a university

The topic like “what’s a university?” or “what a university should do?” has been discussed many times in every age. Not only educationalists but also students take into it. Is it necessary to give priority to skills and knowledge in university education as they are essential to employers? Or students in universities should have access to all of knowledge just as they have their own sake? Chose A or B, this is a problem.

The value of knowledge itself need to be considered first in university education even though the course is not

university need to develop his morality firstly, though these knowledge is not as useful as other skills after they get a job.

On the other hand, the practicability of a university course is also worth considering, especially in the age when our government call for the attention to skills and technology in university education and when the employees prefer to capacity and practical knowledge of employers. The time in university is limited and conditions and aims of students are different. When students chose which course to learn, it is inevitable for some of them prefer to those which are more needed in workplace.

Universities give equal access to all of knowledge, including the practical courses and others. What’s more, they need give more chance to students to choose what to learn. Congratulate on diversity!

What is education for "Education is the foundation of a national!" Taking a panoramic view all over the world, developed countries have more improved education systems than the developing countries. More and more other education institutions are looking for their new market. Meanwhile, Chinese education institutions improved rapidly. However, what is education for? Looking back upon all the great thinkers, I find out there are various answers for this question. For them, the aims of education range from serving the state to individual development. For example, Confucius holds that

education is organized to serve the country and keep the country in good order and in harmony but Whitehead thinks that education is to nurture intelligent people. To my understanding, education should serve the growth of individual. Therefore, the aim of

education is to foster a person rather than a hero. In my mind’s eye, we can develop a good habit and develop a way of thinking by accepting education.

First of all, the purpose of education is to produce a virtuous or good man. Man is not good by nature, so he must be educated to control his animal activities or to be virtuous. Though I do not agree with the point that man is not good by nature, I do agree that “man can only be man by education”. The difference between man and

animal is that man can control their natural needs. Therefore, without virtue, there would be no difference between man and animals. As one of the most important perspectives of a society, education should first transform people into ethical beings. In addition, education should advance people’s knowledge. Education can make people distinguish right from wrong.With the help of education, all people could form their own systems of judgment and justification including the principle of fairness.

Though knowledge cannot guarantee people a decent life, it gives them the opportunities to pursue their dreams. In this modern

society, knowledge is dominating every aspect of our life and work. The amount of knowledge that one owns determines his abilities to survive. The more knowledge one has, the more opportunities he has to succeed. Thus, more and more people pursue further

education to catch up with their peers or to be more competitive. As the main channel of attaining knowledge, the education system should try to meet people’s desire for the knowledge.

Finally, education is responsible for personal all-round

development. According to Tagore, the aim of the national system education is all-round development of the individual personality, including intellectual development, aesthetic education and

creativity. That means the first two purposes above are to serve this

aim. Education is not all about virtue and knowledge. They are just the preparation for individual all-round development, which is the most important aim of education. It’s the personal all-round

development that makes education more meaningful. At the same time, individual all-round development could promote the

development of education. Nowadays, all-round development means that educational system should provide not only liberal education but also science and economy. These are the basic subjects of this modern society. A civilized country is built not only upon the basis of science and economy, but also culture of its people. Living in a civilized country, one should get access to education of all these perspectives.

In sum, I think that education should serve the individual

development. The development of a society or a country depends upon its virtuous and knowledgeable citizen’s contribution. And individual education level is the symbol of a society’s civilization. Without personal development, the system of a society would fail.
