The importance of patience

Anger as One of four emotions often influences us .Anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem, can be the last straw that allows anger to erupt and become overwhelming .However, a famous saying like that :”if you are patient in one moment of anger ,you will avoid 100 days of sorrow. ”, which shows the way benefit control our feelings .

It’s our nature to feel annoyed or irritated when we don’t get what we want or when we feel over stressed. The smart people who know how to control their feelings and negative emotions ,which will give you much more self-confidence , positive and peaceful with other people . 篇二:托福作文之patience

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Patience is not usually a good thing and we need to take actions at once.

“Patience is a virtue” is a frequently used saying. In many cultures and society, patience is considered an important principal of good manners and social customs. However there are many circumstances where immediate action is required and patience can be a detriment.

Another expression about patience goes, “Good things come to those who wait.” The philosophy behind this is that if you are patient and wait to assess the situation before you act, you will be rewarded. There are many instances where this principle does not apply. Take people who invest in business for example. When Facebook was first started, it was seen as an underdog compared to the other internet networking giants like Yahoo. When the company started up, many people did not invest because they wanted to wait and see how the company got along. There w

ere a few people that did not wait, and now they are worth billions of dollars. Sometimes while waiting for the opportune moment, you miss the biggest opportunities. In the case of business ventures, good things come to those who act.

Politics and international relations is another area that most people say require patience. However there are several instances in history that prove a patient country sometimes regrets waiting. During the 1930s, for example, Hitler became increasingly aggressive towards Germany’s neighboring countries. All of Europe and even the League of Nations were reluctant to act, thinking that if they waited and appeased Hitler, then Hitler would eventually stop. In retrospect, everybody agrees that rather than patiently appeasing Hitler, countries should have acted. World War II would have been very different if countries had taken immediate action.

There are instances in international relations when quick actions have resulted in disastrous results. Take for example the U.S. War in Iraq. The U.S. Government at the outset of this war regarded this as a “pre-emptive strike” against Iraq and its Weapons of Mass Destruction program. The reasoning behind this was that if the U.S. waited to see if Iraq was actually developing these programs, then the consequence would be Iraq attacking the U.S. So the U.S. and its allies went to war in Iraq and they did not find any weapons. Their hasty actions resulted in the deaths of thousands of Iraqi civilians and a long drawn out war. Sometimes being patient is a good thing when it comes to military actions.

Although there are many instances when patience is necessary, there are many occasions when immediate action is required.

篇三:托福独立写作(Patience)

Patience is usually not a good strategy. People should take action now rather than later.

Many people hold that we should take action right away rather than later, because waiting will get us nowhere but make us lose opportunities to succeed. From my viewpoint, however, it is not always the case. On the contrary, there are many situations where patience plays a significant role in our succeeding, ranging from our daily life to sports.

In everyday life, patience is a good strategy which will prevent us making impetuous mistakes. We all feel like doing something suddenly sometimes, without much thought about the consequences of the behavior. With more patience and second thoughts, we may find the behavior inappropriate, or come up with plans that help to produce better results. For instance, when we are in the mood of making a purchase online, it is better for us to consider where we are going to utilize the commodity and whether it will be used frequently. Thus we can avoid making an impulse purchase, bringing home something that may never come in handy later.

Patience is also required in sports, especially in games when we are faced with opponents. It is often believed that aggressive athletes have greater chances of winning, but we have to concede that those who act aggressively are more likely to expose their weakness to their opponents. Athletes who patiently waiting for counterstrike opportunities, on the other hand, usually defend themselves solidly and are not easily defeated. So it is better to be patient rather than take actions rashly in sports.

Admittedly, however, there are cases where instant actions are preferable, like the business world. Faced with opportunities in the constantly changing market, if investors hesitate, even for just a little while, they may miss the opportune moment to get their fortunes. There are many cases where an entrepreneur seizes an opportunity and achieves success. Instead of waiting until graduation, Bill Gates started his career as soon as he found the opportunities in computer science. And now, Microsoft is the largest IT corporation in the world, whose products are being used by countless people in almost every country.

To sum up, it is arbitrary to assert that patience is usually not a good strategy. Instead of taking actions rashly, we should be patient to make proper decisions. And once the choice is made, we should not hesitate to carry it out.
