Will Traditional Bookstores Be Replaced By Online Bookstores2013级翻译2班 袁玥 18 初稿

Will Traditional Bookstores Be Replaced By Online Bookstores

Nowadays, with the progress of the Internet technology, online bookstores such as Amazon and Dangdang are enjoying great popularity among people. Therefore, there is a heated debate over whether traditional bookstores will be replaced by online bookstores. Opinions on this question differ from person to person. Some people think online bookstores offer us great convenience and lower price. Others hold that traditional bookstores provide us peaceful atmosphere for reading. I am in favor of the former. The reasons are as follows.

As for customers, purchasing books online is much more convenient and efficient. We don't need to spend lots of time finding a book from different bookstores. What we only need to do is logging on the Internet, searching for the relevant information and clicking the mouse. What's more, books sold online are much cheaper than traditional bookstores, with almost the same good quality. We can benefit if we use less money to buy more books. As for bookstores' operators, they will not to cost money on renting stores to sell books. They also don't need to employ assistants to clean up the bookshelves and operate stores by themselves. All they need to do is checking the purchase orders, which will save plenty of money, thus

beneficial to decreasing the book price.

In conclusion, as online bookstores would bring much more convenience and efficiency to both customers and operators with the lower cost. I hold the view that online bookstores will replace traditional bookstores.

The Traditional Bookstores Would Never Be Replaced

The Traditional Bookstores Would Never Be Replaced

In recent year, Internet bookstores have gained successfully rapid development, such as Amazon and Dangdang. It arouses a question to more and more people: will the traditional bookstores be replaced by Internet bookstores? And my answer is “No”, for the tradition bookstores have some advantages that Internet ones cannot surpass. First of all, the traditional bookstores allow people to view the content of the book, while the internet ones don’t. Before deciding to buy a book, one will always prefer to look thought the content of the book. But Internet bookstores, subject to the copyright protection, cannot offer the convenience for people. So, that’s the biggest reason why people will choose the traditional bookstores.

Besides, the traditional bookstores provide people opportunities to get away from the modernized age. When the digital information age brings convenient life, it also brings the increasing life pressure. Sometimes too much information even makes people want to escape from it. And traditional bookstores, with quiet, elegant and comfortable environment as well as the rich cultural atmosphere, become a garden where minds could have a rest.

Last but not least, the traditional bookstores make wonderful social occasions. When people encounter good books in the bookstores, they may meet across good people as well. A book can always be the best prezent-ant-o for two similarsouls. It may sound too romantic, but that’s needed by life.

In a word, it allows people get away from stressful modern life, view the content leisurely and meet a tasty person accidentally. With these strong reasons, the traditional bookstores would never been replaced by the Internet bookstores.

If you go to London, you will see a lot of buses and cars on the road. You will also see lots of bikes because more and more people travel by bike. There are a lot of reasons for this. First, it's not expensive to buy a bike and it is quick, too. You often have to wait for a bus for half an hour. After you get on the bus, there are so many other buses and cars on the road that the bus moves very slowly. The underground train is quick but often crowded.

I traveled to work by bus for about four years. I often arrived at work late and tired. Then one day, about two years ago, a friend of mine said, “I go to work by bike every day. Please come and join me.” “But my bike is old, and there are so many buses and cars on the road. I'll feel frightened,” I answered.“You needn't feel afraid. If you follow me and we ride slowly, you will be fine,” he said.

The next day I bought a new bike. Although we went slowly, we arrived at work soon. It took

40 minutes to go by bus, but only half an hour by bike.

Now I love riding a bike to work. I arrive at work quickly and I've saved a little money, and more importantly, I feel healthy. Many people think my idea is good and maybe you will see more bikes on the road in the future.

Nowadays, there are more and more TV talent shows. They are very popular all over China.

These talent shows give everyone a chance to show off their talents. For some lucky people, These shows may make them famous, and can even make them rich. However, there are also many bad sides. First, some young people just imitate(模仿)the people they admire(钦佩). They may forget about their own style. Second, young people spend too much time on such TV shows. They always dream of being a star. So they spend less time on their studies.

In my opinion, TV talent shows are social activities Young people can take part in these activities to get social experience. But they should know that the chance of being famous is very small for most people and they should know that their schoolwork is much more important. In short, you can do what you like, but you should know what is important and what is not.

Will traditional bookstores be replaced by onlin bookstore

Will traditional bookstores be replaced by online bookstore? Do you prefer buying books on line or in traditional bookstore? Nowadays, with the rapid development of technology, it is

unprecedented convenience for people to hand daily matters. And in the modern life, efficient is the most significant feature for people to choose the way do things. In order to save time, more and more people buy things online, such as books. Will traditional bookstores be replaced by online bookstores? I firmly believe that traditional bookstores will not be replaced by online bookstores.

At first, in the traditional bookstores, there is an atmosphere of humanity. Readers will enjoy their reading in bookstores, and find various kinds of books as they like. That is a pretty optimistic spice of life in my view. Obviously, online bookstores are short of this spice, it is just for convenience. I always insist that to live at a slow pace, it helps me to reduce stress, and increases the fun, and keeps me in the present moment. Traditional bookstores give us a way to live at a slow pace, why we will lose sight of the advantages of traditional

bookstores? What's more, online bookstores exist honesty issues, credit problems are serious. For the real bibliophiles, they can not stand the pirate. Thus, online bookstores can't satisfy them, they need traditional bookstores.

Finally, the existence value of bookstore is unique, and no one can deny them. All in all, traditional bookstores will not be replaced by online bookstores to me.

Unit 7

1. Reading Comprehension

1. Americans love cyberspace, because America is a nation that loves to explore new

frontiers and admires independence. And cyberspace is a place where you can go and be yourself without worrying about the neighbors, and is a new frontier that gives people an exciting sense of freedom.

2. However, as cyberspace embraces people of all kinds—different ages, occupations, races,

individual tastes, etc., there are worries whether all these people can get along, and whether porn on the Net will harm children.

3. Both real estate and cyberspace are comprised of different districts and places serving

different purposes and different groups of people. However, now most people don’t recognize the difference between these different places, and direct all their attention to those morally bad places suitable only for criminal and porn fans. Therefore, they believe cyberspace is a nasty place that the government should regulate.

4. The author holds that governmental regulation by laws won’t work, and cyberspace

communities need no government control but self-rule. The reasons are : (1) It is unconstitutional for the government to use censorship to counter indecency and other troubling speech; (2) Cyberspace is a voluntary destination where users can choose where to go and what to see. It is easy to avoid those nasty places.

5. The three aspects of cyberspace are: (1) private e-mail conversation, which are like

conversations over the telephone or voice mail; (2) information and entertainment services where people can download anything, which are like bookstores, malls and movie houses where customers go to buy something;(3) communities, which are like bars or restaurants or bathhouses where groups of people communicate among themselves. E-mail conversations require no regulation, as they are private and consensual. Information and entertainment services don’t need regulation either, for customers need to request an item or sigh up for a subscription; stuff is not sent out to people who don’t ask for it. Community services need regulation—rules and moderators—to keep out unwanted advertising, irrelevant discussions, and rude participants.

6. The author discusses three characteristics of cyberspace communities. (1) The success of

cyberspace communities is determined by rules, some of which are determined by the content supplier, and some of which concern prices and membership fees.(2) Cyberspace communities develop when people with like-minded interests band together, so every one of them has its own character. (3) Cyberspace communities of any size and kind may flourish, and people have the freedom to choose the cyberspace community they want to join.

7. It is the third characteristics that makes cyberspace different from terrestrial ones. For

one thing, in real estate, the tyranny of government forces everyone to live by the rule of the majority, squeezing out minority groups and minority preferences. However, cyberspace allows communities of any size and any kind to flourish. For another, in real estate, communities are forces on people by accidents of geography. Most people are stuck in the country where they are born. In contrast, cyberspace communities are chosen by the users. The rules in cyberspace have a moral rather than legal authority. If users do

not like the rules of a given cyberspace community, they can leave it.

8. New cyberspace communities in the future will be self-contained, catering to their own

members’ inclinations without inferring with anyone else’s. The rules governing these communities will evolve according to the relation between supply and demand in the market. Cyberspace explorers will need to define and identify their communities, and establish and accept their own local governments, without help from any terrestrial government.

9. She concludes that society needs to understand that there are no solutions that are

flawless and can meet all the different needs of different people, and that government regulation can not create a safe and peaceful world either. In cyberspace, although we won’t have a perfect society, at least we can have the right to choose and be responsible for what materials we see.

10. The title means cyberspace is a voluntary place which users can choose to visit or not to

visit. Through it the author expresses the point of view that individual users instead of the government should be responsible for deciding what they see on the internet.
