On the one hand, some people hold that the death penalty should not be canceled. They argue that the death penalty can act as a threat or a limitation for the criminals. If the death penalty is canceled, the criminals will be more cruel and crazy, and that will be a bigger threat for people. In addition, cancelling the death penalty will weaken the effect of our laws.

a Spear Or a Shield

All the year around, students are always working hard even forgetting meals and sleeps to accumulate certificates which will smooth their way to the job market. When we are pursuing our certificates, the negative aspects should not be neglected. The pros can be named as side-effects like those in regard to medicine.

Last week, undergraduates and teaching staff had H1N1 vaccine inoculated in SHNU. Whether or not to inoculate the vaccine has aroused a hot debate. Indeed, the vaccine could prevent us from being infected by H1N1 virus. In that sense, it acts as a shield to protest human beings. Similarly, gathering more certificates can raise our stakes in the job market. Other things being equal, candidates who have more certificates will have an edge over those who have not. We make ourselves stronger and perform better by inoculating the vaccine.

However, the vaccine itself is one kind of bacteria. If you are of bad physical condition, you are likely to have some side-effects, such as picking up a fever, having a local pain and even death. In that sense, it acts as less a shield than a spear and it does impair our health. In the same way, earning more certificates has some negative aspects as well. For one thing, students may lavish excessive time on gathering certificates as not to participate in social and campus activities, neglect to consolidate their expertise, attach less importance to their performance in the college.

What’s more, some students take advantage of summer holidays to get a driver’s license. Certificates of that kind called “Quick Certificates.” People take a quick training of driving and when they pass the exam, the driving school will confer a certificate upon them. But a majority of students do not drive after they get the license. It is hazardous to walk in the street full of drivers of that kind. We may run the risk of going dead if we inoculate the vaccine and in the same way we maybe involved in traffic accidents or even lose our lives.

What certificates to students is like what H1N1 vaccine to human beings. Whether it is a spear to impair ourselves or a shield to protest us is a question need deep thinking.
