In the 3D Layout you will see a carton freezed in the air above a sloped floor.You will configure this composition to use the Physics Library to simulate the interactions between the carton and the floor.
2.Add the Physicalize BB (Physics/Creation) to the carton.
A dialog box appears to allow you to control the fundamental physics properties of the carton physics object.
Note:There are a dozen physics properties controlled via the pIns represented in this dialog box.The last two pIns,Surface Name and Convex,are automatically configured and should never be modified as the BB is attached to an element.After the BB is attached to an element and these two pIns have been initialized by Virtools,they can be modified.The next tutorial explains how to modify these pIns and why.
3.Accept the default parameters and click OK to close the dialog box and set the parameters.
Adding the Physicalize BB to an element of the composition automatically creates a physics environment and makes that element a physics object whose actions are governed by the physics engine.The physics environment is governed by some fundamental constants,such as the force of gravity,and by some fundamental rules,such as Newton’s laws of motion and the principle of the conservation of energy.By default,the fundamental constants are configured such that the physics engine simulates the physics of the world around us.
Note:While you are able to change the fundamental constants,you are not able to change the laws of physics that govern the physics engine.
Note:The physics engine uses the MKS (Meter Kilogram Second) system for all pIns,pOuts,and internal calculations.
4.Add Physicalize (Physics/Creation) to the floor.
5.Edit the pIns for Physicalize:
Fixed = check box selected (i.e.TRUE)
Leave all other pValues at their default values.
The physics engine will now consider the floor to be immobile.
Note:There is a significant difference between a physics object that has the fixed physics property and an element that has the fixed obstacle attribute or that simply does not move.An element that has the fixed physics property is a physics object and is processed by the physics engine during simulation.Elements that are not physics objects are ignored by the physics engine.In the current composition,if the floor is not made a physics object by attaching the Physicalize BB,the carton will simply fall through the floor when the composition is executed.
