1. Viewed from the outside look, the resistor's body is black, and the surface has rupture. The measured resistor resistance is infinity, according to that can determine the resistor open circuit is damaged. See from the attached figure 1.
2. After anatomised, the surface coating of resistor is loose , and the internal wire is transfered into powder form, there's black carbon on the rod, thus can we judge that large current through the resistor lead to the protective fuse, as the second appended drawing says.
By providing negative resistor, conduct the related experiments as illustrated three, four, five. Resistance damaged causing a similar bad situation, the current is more than 10 A at least.When the current is beyond material's undertaking ,we can make a judgement that the resistance is damaged because of the input abnormal current.
