How the Elephant got his trunk
Once upon a time, there was a sad elephant. He was dirty and stinky, because he could not reach to wash his back. All the other animals didn’t play with him because he was smelly.
Elephant sat under a tree, where nobody could see him. He started to cry. His head was hanging down, crying big tears. He sat and cried for days. One day, when his tears had dried up, he went to itch his head and he felt a bump on his back. Then he noticed his nose had stretched because it had got wet with all the crying and it was now a long trunk which had hit him on his back.
He went to the river and got his trunk, put it in the water and sucked the water up. Then he sprayed his back with water.
All the other animals came over to him and said “you are so clean and smell so lovely. Do you want to play with us?”
The elephant was so happy and said “yes.”

(The Wind And The Sun)
One day the wind said to the sun, “Look at that man walking along the road. I can get his cloak off more quickly than you can.”
“We will see about that,” said the sun. “I will let you try first.”
So the wind tried to make the man take off his cloak. He blew and blew, but the man only pulled his cloak more closely around himself.
“I give up,” said the wind at last. “I cannot get his cloak off.” Then the sun tried. He shone as hard as he could. The man soon became hot and took off his cloak.

A pairy friend
Peter was a little boy. His parents were very busy with their work, so he was usually very lonely.
One day, Peter sat in the garden playing alone, and he really wished that he could have a friend to play with.
Suddenly, Peter saw a purple-winged fairy sitting on a rose. " " Hi! I am Peter. Who are you? " asked Peter. " I am a fairy named Sara," said the fairy.
" Hi! Sara, would you like to be my friend and play with me? " asked Peter. "Yes, I'd love to." Sara replied.
Sara then sat on Peter's knee and talked happily about her fairyland.
" There are many beautiful flowers in my homeland. I like to ride on the wind and play with the sky-horses," said Sara.
" Fantastic!" said Peter.
They became good friends. However, Sara needed to go home, so Peter was sad.
"Don't be sad, Peter, I'll pray for your happiness. And I'll come and visit you someday." said Sara.
" I'll miss you, Sara." said Peter.
Peter was glad that he had a fairy friend now.

The Three Lazy Ones
A king had three sons whom he loved equally well, and he did not know which of them to appoint as king following his own death.
When the time came for him to die he called them to his bed and said, “Dear children, I have thought of something that I will reveal to you. The one of you is the laziest shall become king after me.”
The oldest one said, “Father, then the kingdom belongs to me, for I am so lazy that whenever I lie down to sleep, and a drop falls into my eyes, I will not even close them so that I can fall asleep.”
The second one said, “Father, the kingdom belongs to me, for I am so lazy that when I am sitting by the fire warming myself, I would rather let my heels burn up than to pull my legs back.”
The third one said, “Father, the kingdom is mine, for I am so lazy that if I were going to be hanged and already had the rope around my neck, and someone put into my hand a sharp knife with which to cut the rope, I would let myself be hanged rather than to lift my hand up to the rope.”
When the father heard this he said, “You have taken it the farthest and shall be king.”
