玛丽奔去学校结果发现是周六，当然不能翻成玛丽为了锻炼身体在不上课的周六奔去了学校，哈哈哈～
这种to表示不被期待、预计的结果的用法还蛮多的呀～

好象是有点问题。说水蒸气将自己的热量丢给周围的空气是为了允许自己变回液体，是拟人手法。somebody does something to allow himself to turn back into ...中的to allow ...应该是目的状语！为
即使将“allow oneself to turn back to sth" 译成”让自己变回。。。“,也还是sb. does sth. 的目的而非结果。你可以理解为：为了让自己变会液体，水蒸气将足够的热量丢给了周围的冷空气。
只不过大家忽略了这个拟人手法而自动将它译成：水蒸气失去了足够的热量从而变成了液体，从而错误地将不定式to allow itself to turn back to liquid 当作了结果状语了。
