Abstmcf-Frequency-deviation measurement is useful for the design
of power system stabilizers,automatic load shedding systems,governor
control,and power system frequency monitoring,etc.Here a simple
electronic bridge for frequency-deviation measurement is described.
It can be used either for analog or digital output.
I.INTRODUCTION
In recent years,the use of supplementary signals to improve the dynamic stability of power systems has received wide attention.Manuscript received November 14,1986; revised May 22,1987.The author is with the Department of Electrical Engineering,Aligarh Muslim University,Aligarh,India.The supplementary controls to the excitation system constitute the power system stabilizer.Several quantities including electrical power,shaft speed,and frequency deviation have been successfully used as the input to a power system stabilizer [1]-[3].Similarly,subfrequency relays are used to drop specific percentages of load at a predetermined low system frequency.This is to arrest the system frequency decay at a safe level [4],[ 5 ] .Apart from these abnormal system conditions,continuous monitoring of power system frequency is also required for automatic generation control and tie line power control.Therefore,accurate and fast measurement of frequency deviation is very important in an interconnected power system.A number of circuits are presented in the literature which can accurately measure the frequency deviation [3],[6].However,in this paper a new type of bridge circuit which is simple and can provide either an analog or a digital signal proportional to frequency deviation is proposed.Since the digital systems are becoming more and more popular,this circuit is likely to find widespread
use in power system applications.
