Today we live in a global consumer society.People across the world purchase, use, and dispose of a huge variety ofproducts which make our lives easier and more comfortable. However, the resultof this is massive damage to our environment. As a result, our water source is polluted,air Is mixed with smokes and frogs, forests and grassland are vanishing, andthe climate is getting warmer and warmer. What can one individual do to protectthe environment? Very little, it may seem, especially compared to the power ofgovernments and huge industrial companies. However, as governments starting tocooperate, working together with dozens, hundreds, or millions of other people,we can influence and change policies which are destroying our environment.

Several years ago environmental protection was still a new word to many people. Most people have focused on the economic development and paid hardly attention to what would happen to environment. In the last two years people have suddenly reallised the our environment, the water, the earth and the air have been so polluted that many people have suffered from serious deseases such as cancer. Today the quality of our natural environment has become an important issue. The world population is rising so quickly that the world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources and at the same time polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, life on earth cannot survive.
Concerned people have made some progress in environmental protection. Governments of many countries have established laws to protect the air, forests and sea resources and to stop environmental pollution.
Still more measures should be taken to solve environmental problems. People should be well educated to recognize the importance of the problems, to use modern methods of birth control, to conserve our natural resources and recycle our products. We have to work hard in order to have a better and cleaner place in the future.
