英语过去式还是完成式He was received by manager three times.和He had been received by manager three times 是不是都可以他被经理接见了3次
单从英语语法来讲,两句都没错.
但从使用习惯来讲,更倾向于用后面那句.英语有个习惯,表示“多少次”,“多长时间”时,多用完成时,且谓语动词要用延续性的.

At half past five in the afternoon, Mr. Zhu, a taxi driver would hand over his taxi. Now it was already a quarter past five, so he held up the plate "Suspension of Service". It was a weekend. A large number of boarders poured out through the gate of No. 40 Middle School. Mr. Zhu couldn't help stopping customarily, for it was the school in which his daughter, who had died recently, had studied.
"Sir, I... I want to to take your taxi." A lame girl with her schoolbag came over, looked around and said anxiously.
Mr. Zhu told her that he had to hand over his taxi in a minute, and he was here just for a break. The girl pleaded, "Thank you, sir. I will get off at the next stop. Just one stop."
Those kind words moved him. Looking at her faded school uniform and her schoolbag which could not be older, he said with a sigh, "OK, get on."
The girl got on happily, but just around the corner, she suddenly muttered, "Sir, I have only three yuan. So that will do if you just take me to the mid between the two stops."
Zhu looked at her flushed face in the rearview mirror, but made no comment. After all, the minimum fare for taking a taxi in this city is five yuan.
Zhu stopped at the nearest stop. The girl got off and said joyfully, "Thank you very much, sir."
Zhu suddenly felt sad at her limping appearance.
It was from that day onward that Mr. Zhu would see the girl waiting at the school gate every weekend. Several taxies passed by, yet the girl ignored them, only waiting there on tiptoe. Is she waiting for me? With such a speculation, Zhu felt warm in his heart. He drove his taxi over, and saw she was beckoning to him from a short distance away. He wondered why she could have spotted him at a glance since his red Santana was of no difference from others'.
Still three yuan and still for one stop. Zhu didn't ask her why she would wait for his taxi specifically, nor did he ask why she would travel for one stop only. He knew it quite well that girls always have their little secrets.
Once, twice, three times, and gradually he had formed the habit that the last passenger he would take on weekends must be the lame girl of No. 40 Middle School. He held up the plate "Suspension of Service", waiting with great devotion at the school gate. The girl was only fourteen or fifteen years old. Once seeing him, she would jump like a fawn, shouting goodbye to her classmates. And five minutes later, she would get off, with the same word "Thank you, sir!"
It seemed that just for this word, he would drove over on weekends no matter how far away he had gone. Even if he might be fined for a delay of handing-over, he would give her a ride.
Time passed by quickly, and it was always the same case until the next summer came. Seeing the girl get on with a heavy bag, Zhu suddenly felt a loss. He knew that she would soon graduate from junior middle school. And which senior middle school would she choose?
"Thank you, sir! Maybe it was the last time that I have taken your taxi, and I have troubled you so much. I will go to study at Xinji No. 1 Middle School, and perhaps I can go home only once half a year." said the girl. Glancing at her in the rearview mirror, he felt very sorry. The girl was indeed excellent as expected, for Xinji No. 1 Middle School was a provincial key school. Attending it means one foot having stepped into a university.
"Then, let me take you home." said Mr. Zhu.
The girl shook her head, saying that she had only three yuan.
"I won't take any money this time." said he, as he looked at his watch. He must miss the moment of handing-over for sending her home, but what mattered if he was to be fined? He just wanted to stay with her for a while, and a little more while. She uttered the address, which was quite far-away, seven stops away from here.
Half an hour later, Zhu stopped and the girl got off with her bag. Zhu took out a box from his taxi, saying, "This is a gift for you."
She was amazed to take the gift and bowed to him, saying, "Thank you, sir."
Watching her limp into a building, Zhu heaved a long sigh. The girl, I cannot see her any more? He even didn't know her name.
Ten tears passed by in a twinkling of an eye.
Zhu was still a taxi driver. He was not busy that day. He was scrubbing his taxi when he heard from Travel Radio an announcement about looking for some missing person. After listening to it carefully, Zhu got puzzled. Is someone looking for me?
Zhu put through the call to the radio and the compere gave him a telephone number joyfully. He was confused. Who will be that one? He called and heard the voice of a young girl. She asked with both astonishment and joy, "Is that you, sir?"
He gawked at the voice and the speed, so familiar yet so strange now.
"Thank you, sir." said the girl.
Not until then did Zhu realize that it was the lame girl whom he had ever taken. It's her! Zhu's eyes were blurred with tears. Ten years have passed, yet she still remembers him!
They met at a cafe. Zhu could hardly recognize this slim and graceful girl before him. Is she still the girl who had only three yuan for a riding ten years ago? The girl rose up and bowed deeply to Mr. Zhu, saying, "Sir, I express my gratitude to you from the depths of my heart."
While drinking, she talked about her past things. Twelve years ago, her father was a taxi driver as well. He was very fond of her, and would drive her home every weekend however busy he was. The spring festival came and her family would go to their hometown for the holidays. In order to take more things, her father borrowed a minubus from one of his friends. When they got halfway, it suddenly snowed heavily and the minubus collided into a truck accidentally. The minubus was bruised beyond recognition and his father died on the spot. And it was in this incident that the girl's feet were badly hurt.
After burying her father, her mother had to work hard day and night to compensate the friend for his car as well as to raise the money for her operation. And the girl studied hard after her wound was healed. She was eager to grow up. She was so staunch as to be able to tolerate anything except the lack of relatives' care.
Therefore, she told no one about the accident. When she went home after school and asked why she was to take buses these days, she lied that her father had travelled. The lie held out for more than half a year until that day when he met Mr. Zhu. She saw the taxi standing still at the gate, as if her father had come to wait for her.
She had only three yuan for the bus, yet she spent it all taxiing for one stop and then walked home for one and half an hour. Faraway as it was, she took it with a grain of salt, for no one would guess the loss of her father any more.
"You certainly did not know that your taxi was the very one my father drove when alive. The license plate number has been inscribed into my brain."
Saying this, the girl began to shed tears. "So I can recognize it at a glance from a long distance away."
Zhu was grieved almost to tears.
"I have kept that medal at my side all the time, without which, I wonder if I could have lived till now. And I have kept all the fare you returned to me, for with this, I think, I can conquer all the difficulties. Though I have lost my father, I can still enjoy paternal love." So saying, she took out a medal from her pocket and wore it. It was one with somewhat blackened edges and on the back of it was a line "May your life be like this gold medal."
It was the very gift Zhu gave to her ten years ago.
Taking his arm, she went out of the cafe. At her going faraway, he stopped his taxi at the roadside, letting tears well from his eyes. The lame girl, whose name he had just known was Lin Meixia, resembled so much his own daughter, who died of cancer ten tears ago! "Thank you, dad!" as she got on and off was the word which had given him so much warmth and sweetness!
The medal was awarded in the Olympic Game and was once all his pride and hope on her daughter. However, she died all of a sudden and nearly took him by surprise. When weekends came again, he always couldn't resist the temptation to stop as he passed by No. 40 Middle School. It seemed as if her daughter would come out, and got on his taxi with the word "Thank you, dad."
During the time the lame girl took his taxi, he felt that his daughter had come back to him and he had again found hope and happiness.
On the way back, Zhu bought a newspaper, and unfolding it, he saw the picture of that lame girl.
She was smiling at him. The striking headline was Lin Meixia, the youngest vice-president of a transnational corporation, the pride of S City...
Zhu opened his mouth aghast and read rapidly through. While reading, he habitally took out a cigarette package from his pocket.
Suddenly he touched an envelope. In it was a ward of dollars. Zhu was confused. He didn't know when she had put the money in his pocket. Just at the moment she took his arm?
Amidst the dollars was a note, saying, "Sir, it's the interest of love and you must accept it. The capital is priceless and will be kept in my heart forever. Thank you, sir."
Zhu's eyes were moistened again...
