Make the Internet Clean for Youths
In 2010,in the English exam of the Entrance Exam of Jiangsu,there is a funny picture.Two people are standing in front of a computer,whose monitor is covered by a piece of underwear.The woman is staring at the computer,while the salesman is telling her that there are three ways to make the Internet safer for her children---hardware,software and underwear.
Why so much tension about making the Internet clean for youths?
First,youths are impressionable and have less self-resistance against harmful stuff.Thus exposure to Internet porn and violence can harm their psychological health.Second,negative news,amplified by online media can easily sway juveniles,who lack sufficient ability to tell right from wrong.Thus it may twist their perceptions and possibly change them into extremists.How to make the Internet clean for youths?
As far as I’m concerned,there are three solutions:hardware solution,software solution and underwear solution.Cutting off the access to the Internet at home is “the hardware solution”.Parents and teachers should limit the time youths can have to be online.Governments should urge online game companies to limit the pay time per day.Using a certain software program to prevent their kids from getting on line is “the software solution”.Domestic computers and school computers should be installed with some software programs which filter the porn and violence.
Making some laws and guides is “the underwear solution”.The government should make laws to censor the Internet and block inappropriate sites,making it a safer place for all teenagers.Take Australia for example,since 2007,the government has been censoring the Internet so that kids can’t visit sites with pornographic or violent images.On the other hand,parents and teachers should give youths a proper guide.Youths need to be taught how to tell and resist bad information.
The destiny of the youths lies in not in the hands of the government,but also in the hands of everyone,you and me.Let us make full use of our wisdom to make the Internet clean for yo
