The passage suggests that Fuel-cell engines have several advantages over internal-combustion engines and will probably soon replace them. However, according to the professor in the lecture,it is not a good decision to replace the internal-combustion engines with Fuel-cell engines. Here are the several points that they have disagreed with each other.
First, the passage mentions that the Fuel-cell engines don’t need petroleum, which is a kind of natural resource that will be run out of in the future. And hydrogen which the fuel-cell need can be derived from various plentiful sources, including natural gas and even water. That is different from what the professor say.The professor argues that the hydrogen can not be achieved as easily as the passage said because it has to be in pure liquid state and require a temperature of -253k.And it is not easy to be stored.
Second, the author of the passage points out that the internal-combustion engines cause a lot of pollution because it ues fossil fuel while the Fuel-cell engines only produce water. On the contray, the professor confirms that using Fuel-cell engines is not the method the solve the environment pollution.Producing hydrogen, which the engines need, requires a lot of energy and water. And the process to produce hydrogen cost a lot of fossil fuel, which will produce carbon dioxide and will also pollute the environment,or even more.
Third,in the reading,it is argued that fuel-cell engines will soon be economically competitive because people will spend less money to operate a fuel-cell engine than they will to operate an internal-combustion engine. This is not the professor states; it says that using Fuel-cell engines will also cost a lot or even more because a very rare metal and it will be a long way to go before it become cheap.
