Abstract:This paper discusses the image segmentation using geodesic ac-
tive contours model.The geodesic active contours model,which is based on
the energy-based classical active contours(snakes) model,which is an energy
minimization model,overcomes some drawbacks of snakes model and gain some
advantages of geometric active contours model.The level set method,using an
implicit representation for the moving inter face,is a simple and e±cient method
for solving geodesic active contours model.When consider discretizations of space
and time,we using semi-implicit additive operator splitting(AOS) schemes which
are stable for all time steps if no balloon forces are present.Experiments show
that the geodesic active contours model can segment images automatically and
can detect more than one object which might be nonconvex,and AOS schemes,
under typical accuracy requirements,are much more e±cient than the widely
used explicit schemes.
