【说明】
①maybe与perhaps同义，甚至可以互换。莎士比亚曾用maybe取代perhaps，但在现代英语里尚未得到普遍承认。由于二者同义，为一个词，即副词，作状语用。
②maybe与may be意义与用法不同：
mayb 在英国英语中限用于非正式场合，例如：
Maybe you're right.
may be适合用于正式场合，其前常用it作主语，其后常带that，例如：
It may be that our letter never reached her.
且may be为两个词，常用it作主语，为动词，作谓语用。试比较以下两例：
Maybe it is right.也许这是对的。
It may be right.这可能是对的。
