In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”,Calpurnia phoned Atticus there is a rabid dog in front of the house street,he came immediately and shotted the dog.Why he killed the dog instead of capturing it or anything else that can stop it?First because the dog is rabid,it might separate its disease to the town.Second,the dog was not under control,the dog had no master around,it might attack anyone anytime.Last,there is no other ways to stop the mad dog at the emergency time or else it might start attacking people and cause unnecessary injury and disease.So it was a right thing he did to the town,it might freaked out someone for firing the rifle,but he might saved lot of people from getting hurt and disease.
Three lessons the Finch children have learnt through this incident was,one,their father Atticus was truly an awesome shot.He only used one bullet and took very short to aim,even he haven't shotted in years.Two their father Atticus was very brave,he was calm at the situation and shoted the dog very resolutely.Three,problem must be solved immediately,or else it will become a bigger problem,and never be resolved.Like in the TV Show “Dora the Explorer”,the character “Swiper the Fox” needed to be stopped in order to continue their exploring.That's the three lessons the Finch children have learnt,they have learnt what is right from the incident.
What did the rabid dog represent?The dog represent those harmful,rude,bad and racist people to the community/world,it is need to stopped to keep peace of the town,just like the bad people to the world.Why Atticus get to stop the dog?Because he as the deadest shot in town,only him can stop the dog.He has successfully killed the dog,but did not successfully win the trial.He killed the dog because only one person(himself) needed,but he lost the trial because only 1 person is not enough!He needed more and more people to do the right thing to keep justice and to win the trial.
If we kept doing the right thing,it will never be wrong.Atticus tried to stop the wrong because he knew he was doing the right thing.And because he chose to do what's right,he became the hero of the novel.
