In August 1978,the team of ten woman arrived in Kathmandu,Nepal.Arlene decided it was safer to climb with Sherpas(雪尔帕人),__(85)__Nepalese men who could carry heavy loads up the mountain.They walked though the beautiful countryside to the mountain and made base camp.For safety__(86)__the team made five camps on Annapurna.
The most__(87)__part of the climb was called the“Dutch Rib”,a very narrow route between Camps 2 and 3.Dangerous avalanches(雪崩)were common on Annapurna and once the Sherpas ran away,returning only when more__(88)__was offered.After nearly six weeks on the mountain,Arlene decided that two teams should try for the summit.The first team of Irene and Vera Karmakova reached the summit,__(89)__Sherpas,on October 15th 1978.Unfortunately,the weather then got worse and the second team of Vera Watson and Alison were__(90)__dead several days laters,after falling 500 meters.Arlene Blum and the rest of the grounp were sad at the loss of their friends,but__(91)__they had climbed Annapurna.
