A Joke

A Joke

I am a naughty boy. Yesterday I played a joke on my classmate, Mark. When we all busied doing homework, I draw a picture of dog and wrote a sentence in the bottom," I am a dog." And then I carefully put it on the clothes of mark. Mark sat in front of me, so I can make this things achieved easily. When he stood up to answer our teacher's question next class, everyone saw this and laughed, including the teacher. He felt embarrassed at first, but later he laughed with us.

China's State Council has decided to improve the basic endowment insurance system for enterprise employees around the country, stressing the necessity of paying the pension on time and in full.

Things hard to come by are much esteemed. (Latin proverb)

【Language Tips】

'To come a cropper'

----------

To come a cropper源自赛马场。 To come a cropper指得就是这种情况。后来to come a cropper泛指从高处摔下来,例如:Her grandfather came a cropper and hurt himself badly.(她祖父从高处摔下来,伤得很重。)

She came a cropper in the math examination.

The mediator of the inexpressible is the work of art. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, German writer, 1749-1832)

【Language Tips】

'Cracked up to be'

----------

cracked up to be是一个约定俗成的说法,意思是generally believed to be or regarded as being(被吹捧)。

Don't pour hot water into the glass or it will crack.(不要把热水倒进玻璃杯里,不然它会炸的。)

The product is not what it's cracked up to be.

【Morning Buzz】

The really precious things are thought and sight, not pace. It does a bullet no good to go fast; and a man, if he be truly a man, no harm to go slow; for his glory is not at all in going, but in being. (Alain de Botton, Swiss-British writer, b.1969)

F: Yes, it's a four-year sandwich course and I'll get the chance to work with a top architecture company.

Sandwich courses normally last for four years at degree level, with work experience or foreign studies normally taking place in your third year.

As we all known, on a team morale is quite important to staff’s productivety and orgainizational success. Then I will list three tips for boosting employee morale.

First, recognize special events in the lives of the employees. Birthdays, weddings, births, the accomplishments of employee children—if the team have a reason to celebrate, do it!

Second, recognize and reward the employees for doing good work. "People want to feel valued," a successful CEO once explained. Tell the employees they are doing a good job verbally, or write a little note to let them know it.

Last but not the least, smile more. The social environment at work is a big contributor to burnout. The lead's demeanor can directly affect the staff, as workers read the mood of the boss for clues about performance and job security. So, smile more often, talk about fun things like hobbies with employees, or crack a joke—just make sure it's done in good taste.

These steps may help to boost morale, encourage team building and even stave off job burnout.

Edison's Life

Can you imagine what Edison's life was like in the years after he had invented the electric lamp?

Many things had to be invented and built before the electric lamp could really be used by all. Everything that was needed had to be thought of and built by Edison and the men who worked with him. There was no place where they could buy the things they needed. Edison made 360 inventions more in order to send electric power to wherever it was wanted.

Edison directed all the work himself: testing new machines, pulling wires under ground, fixing lights, and so on. He seemed to be everywhere at the same time. He wanted his men to do as much work as he did. But he never asked them to do things that he himself would not do or

B.only by his father D.both at school and at home

could not do.

He had never thought much about regular hours for sleep; he often forgot completely about sleeping. He slept for a few minutes at a time, in the middle of the night, in an underground room at his power station, with a metal box as his bed. During these days, he almost never saw his wife and children.
