范文

V. 写作

There are quite a lot of street sculptures in big cities, which show a kind of culture or reflect the change and development of a city, and very often different people have different understanding of the street sculptures.

Here we see one. The man who stands for the old generation is obviously a learned person, wearing old-fashioned glasses and clothes that date back to the beginning of the twentieth century. He is looking at the laptop in great curiosity, unable to figure out what it is. The girl, on the other hand, is totally different: she has long hair, wears a fashionable short skirt and is operating the modern device skillfully, leaving him wondering what she is doing.

The striking differences between the two persons perhaps show the rapid changes in people’s life in China, the great development of the times and the progress of civilization. But most important of all, the sculpture reflects the history and culture of the city and it’s a perfect combination of tradition and modernization.

parents realize that you have been living your own and can make your own decisions. This idea was rejected I came home for Thanksgiving. At first, everything was going as (smoothly) as possible. The first night I went to the Berkeley campus to visit my friend Sara, without any argument from my mother. when I called her to say I had decided to spend the night at Sara’s dorm, my mom informed me that she wanted me home at one a.m. I was wild with anger! I (make) my own decisions how late a young man should stay out for several months. However much I tried to reason with my mother, she insisted things are different when I am home, and that they were the paying my bills. And kids, this is true. No matter how much you want to fight it, mommy and daddy are still holding the purse strings, whether you are 18 or not. Sometimes it is best to sit back, shut up, and do they ask.

A land free from destruction, plus wealth, natural resources, and labor supply — all these were important factors in helping England to become the center for the Industrial Revolution, but they were not enough. Something else(need) to start the industrial process. That ―something special‖ was men — creative individuals could invent machines, find new sources of power, and establish business organizations to reshape society.

The men who created the machines of the Industrial Revolution came from many backgrounds and many occupations. Many of them were more inventors than scientists. A pure scientist appreciates (conduct) his research accurately. He is not necessarily working ______ his findings can be used. An inventor or one interested in applied science is usually trying to make something that has a concrete use. He may strive (solve) a problem by using the theories of science or by experimenting through trial and error. Regardless of his method, he is working to obtain specific result: the construction of a harvesting machine, the burning of a light bulb, or one of many other objectives.

Many of the people who developed the machines of the Industrial Revolution were inventors, not (train) scientists. A few were both scientists and inventors. Even those who had little or no training in science not have made their inventions if a groundwork had not been laid by scientists years before.

Officials at Boston College have made what may be a critical decision: they’ve stopped giving out new email accounts to incoming students. The officials realized that the students had already established digital by the time they entered college, so the new email addresses were just not being used, but, , the college will offer forwarding (转发) services.

Starting next year, freshman at Boston College won’t be given an actual email account complete with login and inbox, just an email address. This address, in the format of johnsmith@bc. edu will simply forward mail to the student’s already inbox, be it Gmail, Windows Live Mail, Yahoo Mail, AOL, or whatever else they may be using.

The college reached a smart decision after first looking into outsourcing (外包) their email to the cloud. While the Boston College decision may have been made for reasons more than anything, we can easily imagine this as being the start of a new trend.

Can you even imagine a U.S. college student who didn’t have an email address of their own by the time they were a freshman? It’s unheard of. Today’s students are digital immersed (浸润) in technology from the day they were born. It simply doesn’t make sense to give them yet another account to manage when they enter college.

By going this their email carrier will probably forget to the institution to the change and could then miss out onmessages from the university with regard to their courses, scholarship, safety information, etc.

In the end, we think the decision Boston College made could easily be the start of a new trend. We’re sure the students like it, too.

Like many other small boys, I was fascinated by cars, especially because my oldest brother was a bit of a car guy and subscribed to cool magazines like Car and Driver and Motor Trend. Every so often, one of those magazines would run an article on the ―Car of the Future‖. They featured unconventional things like small nuclear reactors as power sources. Yet, frankly, my car doesn’t do anything that my brother’s Studebaker didn’t do. It goes, it stops, it burns gasoline. I still have to steer it, and it still runs into things if I don’t steer it carefully.

But guess what? All of these things are likely to change in the not-so-distant future. It may not burn gasoline, I may not have to steer it, and it may be a lot better at not running into things.

Airbags aren’t the be-all and end-all in safety. In fact, considering the recent news about people occasionally being killed by their airbags in low-speed crashes, they obviously still need some development. But they aren’t going away, and in fact, you can expect to see cars appearing with additional, side-impact airbags, something some European car manufacturers already offer.

Better than systems to minimize injury in the event of an accident, however, are systems that minimize the
