Between the south of Jizhou, and the north of Heyang, lies two high and steep mountain, called Taihang and Wangwu, extend their boundary of 700 miles.

In the north of the mountain lived a 90-year-old man Yu Gong, whose house faces the mountain, stuck inside the two mountains, making the way extremely long and tough for Yu's family for they can only take a detour to get out. One day, Yu gathered his family and stressed his plan:" We together pour all our strength into leveling the soil, make our way straight to Yunan and Jiangyin, is that alright? " The family seldom made their choices. "Even a small hill like Kuifu is too immense for our strength, much less a mountain like Taihang or Wangwu. Besides, how to handle the earth and stone dug out?" The rest of the family said:"We pour them into Bohai sea, the north of Yintu." So Yu with his son and his grandson begin to move the mountain, rock by rock, and transfer it into Bohai sea, basket by basket. Their neighbor widow Jingcheng had a boy, who just changed his teeth, also help Yu's family. And as the weather changed and the season changed from summer to winter, Yu's family just made one move.

Zhisou from Hequ tried to stop Yugong, laughing at him and said:"How foolish you are! What's the meaning for you ordinary people to move the mountain? Even the trees and weeds in the mountain is too much for you to move, not mentioning the earth and stones." Yu sighed heavily and replied:"You're too stubborn, even the widow and the kid is stronger than you. Though I can't live forever, but I have my descendents. So long as the generation and the faith passes on, and the mountain doesn't grow, why can't we make it?" Zhisou had nothing to reply.

The God Shecao heard of it. Fearing the family won't stop, he told the God. The God was moved by their faith, ordering two son of Kuae's to carry the two mountain, one to east Shuo, anther to south Yong. And from then on, there's never been any mountains barring between south of Ji and the Han river.
