My Experience of a flood

There is no one growing up without seeing any disasters. Some people might only know about it from news, TVs or other mediums.But I believe that most people have actually experienced it.In fact, I belong to the latter.

When I was in primary school, I lived in a small and beautiful village which was beside Han River.I remember, it happened in a summer, after a long time sunshine the black clouds gradually appeared in the air, which carried a great deal of water and poured it into this small area.The heavy rain had lasted for a week, as a result, the whole village was immerged into water and the river level mounted quickly to the river levee, beside which the trees and crops had been submerged by flood.To make matters worse, the electricity was cut off by thunder,the whole village got into dark world.

Meanwhile, the village head called on all the villagers to prepare for departing.Once the water increased over the river levee, all the houses would be swallowed by flood, so we had to pack all the important things to wait for the notice of leaving.When it approached night, we saw a group of army entering into this village for the defense of flood.It was an exciting scene for the children because it was the first time

to meet so many soldiers.While the adults of the village seemed very anxious, they concerned more about their houses and livestock.

After a while, a big shed was set up beside the river levee, and the generator begun to work, the bulb brought bright light for the dark,which seemed to bring hope to the village. The army started to carry bags of mud to the levee,then most adults of the village took part in the team.The constant heavy rain weted their clothes although they wore raincoats. In a while, whether young or old, men or women, nearly all the people got involved in this battle.It was difficult to distinguish the rain from the sweat in their face, they were just trying their best to protect their hometown.

After a night’s fightng with the flood, rain gradually stopped and beautiful rainbow appeared in the air.All the people relieved with smile, and went back home one by one for a good rest.

It never occurred to me that the unity of human being could bring to us so earth-shaking force that even nature will submit to it.
