As the development of globalization,more and more families are sending their children overseas for studies.As far as I know,the number of self-financed Chinese students studying abroad has risen 10 times from 1998 to 121000 last year as numerous Chinese employers favor professionals who have a understanding of different cultures.Nevertheless,there is a positive aspect and a negative aspect to everything-and that also includes studying abroad.
An abundance of benefits from studying abroad have commended by many an international student.The attractions include:practical life skills and the development of self-reliance,the chance to learn about another culture,the advancement of foreign language acquisition,work experience abroad,commencement or fulfillment of course work,exposure to new academic pursuits and developing perspectives on one’s educational background,along with opportunities to make new friends and to see new places.
In China,there exist in our educational system many defects that lead to the growing number of studying abroad.Some educational experts argue that our education system ,which emphasizes unified standards and strong discipline,negatively affects children’s creativity.
However,we cannot neglect the drawback result form studying abroad .first,the majority of schools abroad are usually much more costly than local schools.Most families cannot afford it easily,not to mention the many families living below the poverty line.Second,some students have big difficulties with languages,which may add to their anxiety and even lead to abnormal behavior.For instance,a New Zealand court last year sentenced two Chinese students to 18 years and six months in prison for kidnapping and killing a fellow student.This shocking case raises concern over the situations Chinese students studying abroad have to confront.
Therefore,it is necessary for parents to think twice before deciding to send their children abroad.Furthermore,our school system should be reformed in order to accord with the requirement of the society.
