A TURTLE'S GRATITUDE

乌龟报恩

During the Chin dynasty of the fourth century， there was a middle aged man in Shanyin called K'ung Yu. He was an official for the government， but he had practically the lowest official position in the whole dynasty. His position was low， and so was his pay. Times were hard for him.

在公元四世纪的陈代，山阴县有个名叫孔玉的中年人。他虽是朝廷命官，但朝中官位最低， 官俸也少得可怜，日子过得非常艰苦。

Once he saw a turtle someone was getting ready to eat. He felt sorry for it，so he bought the turtle and took it to the river. There he let it go.

一次它看到一只乌龟即将被人吃掉的，他很为它难过，所以把它买下来，带它到河边放生。

The turtle seemed to understand that Yu had saved it from the soup. As it swam away， it kept looking back at him. Yu watched it until he couldn't see it any more.

乌龟好像知道玉从锅边救了它。它游走的时候不断回头看他。玉一直看着它，直到再也看不见了为止。

Years later， Yu had reached a better position. Leading troops， he quelled a rebellion. For his great deeds， the Emperor raised him to the rank of Lord， a high and powerful position. 过了若干年，玉得到了提升。他带领军队平判了一场叛乱。由于他的功绩，皇帝提升他到一个高而显赫的职位-侯王。

The official insignia for the rank of Lord is a metal seal， or chop. When K'ung Yu was

promoted， the royal artisans cast a seal for him， but for some reason， it came out with a turtle on top， and the turtle was looking back over its shoulder. They thought that was strange， so they melted the seal down， made a new mold， and cast it again， but it still came out with a turtle looking back over its shoulder！ The artisans tried over and over again. Every time they made the mold very carefully， and everybody inspected the mold. Every time， the mold was fine， but every time they cast the seal， it came out with a turtle on top of it， and every time， the turtle's head was looking back over its shoulder！

此侯王的官徽是一枚金属章或印。当孔玉被提升后，皇宫的工匠给他铸了一枚印章，但不知什么原因，每次印章被刻出之后，总有一只的乌龟在上边，这只龟在向后望。 他们觉得很奇怪，于是熔掉印章，铸了一个新的模子，但铸出来的印章上面仍有只龟在回头望。工匠门试了又试，每次铸模时他们都非常小心，而且每个人都检查了模子。每次模子都做得很好，但每次铸出来，上面都有这样一只乌龟。

The artisans thought this was uncanny. They decided to go to the new Lord and see what he thought about it. They knelt in front of him， and said， "My Lord，as directed by our Emperor of Ten Thousand Years， we have tried to make a seal for you as sign of your new rank， but every time we cast the mold， the seal comes out with a turtle on top， and the turtle is always looking back over its shoulder."

工匠们觉得很离奇。他们决定去找新任侯王，看他有什么想法。他们跪在他面前说，"大人，接万岁的旨意，我们试着给您做一枚官印，但每次我们浇

"Carry on，" K'ung Yu directed. "Do it over again."

"继续做吧，" 孔玉吩咐说。"再重新铸一遍。"

The artisans followed his command， but once again， the seal appeared with a turtle on top， looking back over its shoulder. K'ung Yu was perplexed. The news of this strange occurrence spread， and eventually reached the royal ears of the Emperor.

工匠们遵照他的命令，铸出来，官印上面还是有一只乌龟向后看。孔玉很不解。这件怪事传开了，最后传到皇帝的耳朵里。

The Emperor called K'ung Yu in to explain why his seal always came with a turtle， but K'ung Yu was at a loss to explain.

皇帝召见孔玉，让他解释是怎么回事。孔玉无言以对。

On his way home， K'ung Yu suddenly remembered something. The next day in court， he reported， "Your Highness's loyal minister has considered the manner of the seal and the unexplainable turtles， and perhaps has found a reason.

回家的路上，孔玉突然想起来的什么。第二天上朝，他奏道，"陛下，臣思考了官印的样子还有那只无法解释的乌龟，可能已经知道答案了。"

"Many years ago， this minister happened to see a fisherman preparing to cook and eat a turtle he had caught. This minister felt sorry for the turtle， and so purchased said turtle from the fisherman and released it by the river. The turtle seemed to understand， for it swam along the surface of the water and looked back as if in gratitude.

多年前，臣碰巧看到一个渔夫抓了一只乌龟，正准备吃掉。臣很同情这只乌龟，于是将它买下，并放到河里。乌龟好像懂事，它一边在水面上游动一边回头看，好象很感激。 "Your Highness has currently granted me the rank of Lord； the official seal has a turtle on it； this must be a sign？ hat I have had the opportunity to win such favor from Your Highness due to the gratitude of that turtle， which must have moved Heaven on my behalf."

陛下刚刚赐予我侯王的爵位，官印上有只乌龟，这肯定说明由于乌龟对我的感激感动了上天我才有机会获得我皇的厚恩。

The Emperor told the court，" Those who do good will reap good rewards. The Lord K'ung is an excellent example."

皇帝告诉朝臣，"好人有好报。孔公就是一个绝好的例子。"

篇二：乌龟放生记

乌龟放生记

今天是“五一”国际劳动节，天空中云雾弥漫，没有了前几日的闷热，空气一下子清爽了许多，是一个难得的好日子。所以，爷爷决定带我和奶奶去国家级湿地公园游玩；同时，还要做一件重要的事——将家中饲养了六年的一只小乌龟放生。

到了湿地公园后，我们马上开始在众多的湖边挑选放乌龟的地方。不一会，我便挑中了一个水质好，小鱼多的所在，准备把乌龟从那儿放入水中。可奶奶过来一看，说：“不行，这地方没坡，乌龟放下去会”下饺子”（意为没有反应过来就被放进水中，一下子沉下去）。经过千挑万选，我们总算找到了有坡、有小鱼，水质也不错的地方，准备将它放生。

爷爷用双手托住乌龟，小心翼翼地把它放入水中。它便缓缓向前游去。我想：走吧，小东西，回到大自然中去吧！可能是因为它已经在我们家待了多年的缘故吧！它在转了一个大弯后，居然又回来了！它抬起那小小的头，用那双水灵灵的眼睛望着我们，也许它是在想：我真的就这样就走了吗？就这样，我们和乌龟对视了几分钟后，爷爷就又将它捞了回来，并用水把它清洗了一下，再一次把它放入水中。它可能在想：看来主人真的要“抛弃”我了。于是，它回过头，深情地看了我们一眼，就回过头去游向远方。

望着它渐渐变小，变模糊的身影，我想：去吧，小家伙，你属于大自然，大自然也属于你，过属于你自己的生活去吧！

再见了，小乌龟；祝福你，小乌龟！

今天，爸爸给我买了三只乌龟，一公二母。我想：一公一母可以结婚产卵，但是另外一只母乌龟怎么办呢？正巧这时淼淼来了电话，问我能不能去清华玩。我问爸爸，爸爸说：“能。”我想：不如趁此机会放生，让这只乌龟回归自然。爸爸好像看出了我的心思：“也可以把乌龟带上，让乌龟回归大自然。”我们带上乌龟与淼淼会合。

我和淼淼拎着塑料袋，到了桥上。我们把乌龟轻轻地放到了桥中间，想让它自己爬走。可是它一动不动。我们又把它放到了桥的边沿上，这下它开始缓慢地移动了。它慢慢地爬呀爬，终于，“扑通”一声跳下水里去了。原本平静的水面，立即水波荡漾开了。它仿佛很快乐，因为它在水里就像回到了自己的家。我心里有一种说不出来的滋味，又难受又高兴。难受的是，我和它刚刚认识，它就走了；高兴的是，它回到了家，获得自由了。我像着了魔似地跑到桥的另一边，拿着塑料袋的一边撩水，想驱散心中的不快，却奇迹般地发现，它竟然在这儿等着我们！“快来看，乌龟在那儿！”我喊了起来。淼淼的爸爸觉得这太奇怪了，用手电筒照过来，乌龟竟然用左前爪跟我们招手！我想：这太神奇了，乌龟真的通人性，就像童话故事里的情节一般。我此时的心情是既后悔又痛苦，我第一次深深地，刻骨铭心地感觉到了失去的痛苦。虽然我们刚刚见面不久，但是我还是很舍不得它的离去。

看看塑料袋里另外两只乌龟无精打采的样子，我内心矛盾了很久，最终决定把它们也放了。它们一下水就赶紧又走了！

虽然买乌龟的220元钱就这样白白地“游”走了，同时我感受到了失去朋友的沮丧之情，但是我也体验到了放生动物的快乐，因为爱护动物不需要理由！

煮熟的乌龟

Fresh water turtle was the favorite food of Zheng Laozhi， who lived in Ankang， Dantu， in Jiangsu province. He loved to eat fresh water turtle for three reasons. First， he said the flesh was just right， not too firm and not too soft. Second， he slept better after eating turtle. Third， he thought turtle meat must be good for the heart and kidneys. So whenever he had enough money in his pocket， he'd go buy a turtle to cook.

江苏丹徒安康有个叫郑老志的人，他最喜欢吃的菜是淡水龟。他这么爱吃淡 水龟有三个原因。一，肉刚刚好，既不太嫩又不太老。二，吃龟后他睡得很香。三，他相信吃龟对心和肾有好处。所以只要他口袋里有足 够的钱，他就买乌龟来煮吃。

"Spare me， please！ Be a nice guy and don't murder me！" That's what someone dressed in black said to him in a dream. He knelt in front of Zheng Laozhi and pleaded for his life. The funny thing was that after he woke up， Zheng found that his wife had had the same dream.

That morning， a fisherman came to sell a big， fat fresh water turtle he had caught. Zheng Laozhi was delighted. He drooled as he paid the fisherman for the turtle， even though the price was high. "Cook it！" he gleefully sang out.

第二天早上，一个渔夫要卖给郑一只他捕到的又大又肥的淡水龟。郑老志非常高兴。尽管价格不菲，他还是买了。他一边付钱一边流口水。"煮了它！"他高兴的哼着小调。

"Just a minute，" his wife said， "Have you forgotten our dream last night？" "Aww， that was just a dream. You can't believe everything that pops up in a dream."

"等等，"他妻子说，"你忘了昨天夜里的梦了？""哎呀，只是一个梦而已。梦怎么能当真呢。"

" But I don't think that a man dressed in black could be bringing any good news. Look， husband， why don't you just let this turtle go？"

"但是我不认为一个穿着黑衣服的人会带来喜讯。好了，你为什么不放了这只乌龟呢？" "What？ You want me to let a turtle go when it's only a step away from the kitchen？ You woman sure have some weird ideas."

"什么？都要到厨房了，你还要我放了这只乌龟？你们女人总是疑神疑鬼。"

With that， Zheng walked into the kitchen and cooked that turtle. Then he ate it and enjoyed every bite. But for some reason， after he finished， he decided to take a bath.

说完，郑就走到厨房里煮那只龟。然后细细品味。不知道为什么，他吃完后想要洗个澡。 His wife waited and waited outside the bathroom， but her husband didn't come out again. She listened carefully. She didn't hear him washing. She knocked on the door， but he didn't answer.

他妻子在浴室外等了很久，但是她丈夫再也没有出来。她仔细一听，没听见他洗澡的声音。她上去敲门，但是他没有应声。

Finally， she went in to see what was going on. When she opened the door，she saw the bathtub was full of blood. Her husband had dissolved into the bath water like a turtle cooked into soup， and there was nothing left of him but his hair！

最后，她进去看看这是怎么了。当她开门后，看到澡盆里都是血。她丈夫就像那只被煮成汤的龟一样，在洗澡水里融解了，除了头发，什么都不剩！

篇五：放生小乌龟

放生小乌龟

小乌龟不吃东西好几天了，爸爸说：把它放生吧，不然它会死掉的!我同意了。

我们把乌龟放生在一个水泥边沿的池塘里，几年前爸爸从山上捡来一只野生大乌龟也放生在这里。

小乌龟在水泥池边沿游来游去，头伸在水面上，很可怜很无助的样子。一只大红鲤鱼游了过来，狠狠地一摆尾，卷起一个大大的漩涡。我担心小乌龟会受到这些庞然大物的伤害，我真希望爸爸放生的大乌龟能够好好地保护它。爸爸忧伤地说，前段时间下大雨，水溢出水池，大乌龟可能已经溜走了，但愿它能好好活着，不要落在坏人手里。

放生回来，我的心情没有轻松。小乌龟会觅食吗?它会受到伤害吗?它该怎么活下去呢?……我的心里空落落的。爸爸叹口气说：如果它不能学会独立生活，它就只有面对死亡，这是自然法则，谁也没有办法!我烦恼地白了爸爸一眼，我知道他又在借机说我哩!唉，但愿我的小乌龟能够坚强地活着吧!
